Lo there, [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
roughly this time last year i started a large-ish map, based on Nar Shaddaa with (so far) a Canteen area and a CargoBay type area. You may remember if u see these:

Outside area

Canteen area

CargoBay area

I had to stop when i started a BSc Computer Games Design course [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Now it's the summer and i am DETERMINED to take this map to finish (or at least a decent beta stage). Also 8 months is long time for computers so hopefully fps's will be less of a problem...?

Here are some pics of new work (i have added a lil park area and tweaked the walkways):

Very, very nice. The only thing I might add, and this goes for the level in general - not any specific area - is more blue and green. All the previous depictions of Nar Shaddaa have been in muted blues and greens. The park is a cool idea, but ..eh.. it just doesn't fit in with my conception of Nar. Not a big deal at all, though, and it could just be me.

Btw - Zul made a ton of Nar Shaddaa textures for me to use, and I assume he would have no problem letting you do the same. Ask him for them, or if you like, I'll send them to you.

But ofcourse, you can simply name it something different than Nar Shaddaa and all problems are immediatly sorted.

Great stuff. I like the orange color scheme in the canteen.

I have one suggestion. The outside area is quite bland besides for the large buildings. On the decks you should add some detail things like benches, street lamps, etc.

Brilliant! Though may I just suggest some [more] flashing Neon signs? It wouldn't be Nar Shadaa otherwise...

Just a tip.

You might wanna place the tree roots under the ground.

Otherwise this map looks great. Must have taken you lots of time. What type of map is it anyway, I never heard of it before.

Thanks peeps i much appreciate your posts.

Tree-roots are as they are meant to be...it's the models - i even clip-brushed the trees so they are climbable...

I have a few small arena's to add with their entrances coming out into that main outside bit. The entrances will add a bit more variety and break up the (currently) fairly plain outside and walkways.

More coloured signs, lamposts etc...yup they are en route but will be last things added as a lot depends on the kind of fps's people get after the general layout is complete...

Methinks i will have a LOT of tweaking to do...(fortunately i have some (hopefully) cunnings plans)...

(So far i have 60 fps as lowest fr and that's in rare-to-be-in places - my comp:
Athlon 1.8 GHz, ABIT gf4 ti4600, 512Mb DDR RAM, SB Audigy, WIN98-SE)

Oh yeah...it's mp...

Lo Sine...admin now huh? ooOOoo! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Yeah m8 i might need some extra sign textures. That'd be good...

I do have to agree with Sine's first reply to this topic; the trees/foilage doesn't fit in nar, and it does need more of a blue/green tinting to some areas, but the red looks gorgeous to me. However, the trees/foilage is a nice touch, and makes it look beautiful. Make a couple more low-in-nature areas. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

The plantlife would fit on a world like Coruscant, where many areas are meant for luxury, but not the smuggling moon of Nar Shaddaa.

Well basically a super-rich smuggler with a penchant, ne obsession, for all things Jedi/Sith has his very own private compound.
The only way he could entice Jedi to stay was if they could have some trees to faff-about around.(Sound more like bloomin hippies to me...!) So, at great expense and much piss-taking from his neighbours ("Trees!? In Nar Shaddaa!? Are you a girl or something!?", he imported some trees from Yavin and found a good supplier of water and created the park you see in the pictures above... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Still to come:
1 mini replica of Sith Temple
2 mini replica of Jedi Temple
3 Arena
4 more detail in Outside area (if it can be afforded (fps))

Yes, it seems a bit too cheery almost for Nar Shaddaa. My concern with any Nar level is that it may end up too Coruscant-like. But I do like the eye candy most certainly. You really did seem to pay attention to how a park should look. Good job.

Now, for the cargo bay area: What really bugs me in the JK games is that they seem to have a forcefield over every entrance. This seems really out of place considering you never see this kind of thing in the movie. The forcefields are usually invisible and apparently can selectively let ships in. So really, get rid of the blue field is all I'm asking. It will look better as well since the players will be able to see Nar outside more clear.

I suggest you make the plantlife area in glass or something, more secluded, and not part of the dirty walls and buildings we see in Nar Shaddaa.

Sine, the link to the textures you sent we don't work [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I have sent e-mail but i guess (like me) you don't check so regularly [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
