very reminicient of imperial blue

It is quite plain (mainly because of the solid textures), as someone has stated before I believe. Those textures are to JO what the 00_base1 through 00_grey8 mats are to JK (just way too plain unless the architecture compliments them).

Pretty sure thats the DFA texture set, and used properly it can look **** nice.

Looks pretty cool, Asp. Not quite sure where you're going wit the "roof" though.

Meh. I don't really like it. Textures are repetitive, lighting is ugly, and the fact that some parts are grey and some blue is even more icky. Plus, it's not very detailed. Needs a lot of work.

Nice place...
But where are the fries?
Oh, let me guess... Through that unfinished door, down the unfinished hall, and straight into the unfinished kitchen... Right?

I don't mean to sound rude but it really does look bland. Try adding some more detail. Perhaps ramps on the catwalks, small doom(or dark tempest) style lamps here and there. Maybe some computer screens and stuff like that.

Oh and it also needs to be darker. And if you're gonna keep the textures, at least change the grey floor. It really doesn't blend in with the rest.

I'm tired of taking flak off of the textures. I stated from the beginning that this map would be stark, and I think that what is destroying the feel of the map is texturing; namely, the repetition within the textures. It is easier to hide in small, confined areas, but in open areas it is close to impossible to keep a stark feel while hiding the tiling.

So to get rid of the side-effects, I made my own set of textures; both smooth and semi-textured versions. I redid some shaders and made new textures for them as well.

Because of the sheer size of my map, retexturing is going to take a good deal of time. What I hope to do is overhaul a couple areas with each type of texture and see what looks best. The only setback is that compiles take about 45-50 minutes, and I have quite a few errands to run today. Hopefully I can get some updates posted tonight, but I can't promise anything.

Its rather bland. Its just a bunch of hallways, a rampart, and miscellaneous structures merged into wall surfaces. More detail.

Here's a sample... it's a bit rough, but I haven't had much time to work on it. A really good friend of mine is going through a crisis, and I've been unable to really get any work done on the map. Since I'm starting another long week, I figured I'd at least post what I had.

No... I liked the blue better.
DO NOT WANT.

I like them both, so maybe you could do a dark side and a light side to it?

Nice red lighting, but isn't it a bit too dark? If that is what you are aiming for . . . well . . .

Now that looks decidedly kickass.

Possibly bring up the ambient lighting a notch, just so its not pure black.

The glass shader I'm using is causing a tint on all the textures, so I'm going to be replacing that pretty soon... other than that, I'm pretty much ok with what is happening.

Purdy. Just fix (or smoothe out) the areas where there are spots of light where there shouldnt be and it will be beutiful.

it looks... cell shaded...

------------------
2003-07-29, 5:14 PM #30
That's an entirely different map. I, personally, like the cel-shaded look caused by the glass shader. It looks...cleaner...somehow. But if you remove it, that's your decision.

"All stations, red alert!"

The red reminds me of going down a fed. starship corridor during red alert. But, I do like that red and blue mixed together. Also, I like that shader effect you have.

All I'm planning on changing is the color of the glass.

I'm also working on a new skybox, 'cause the one I'm using now is too dark and doesn't show through the glass. I'm considering making a huge planet for my light source, but for now I'm just concentrating on cleaning up the look of the map.

I'm going to add a few details here and there, but I'm keeping the look very plain and stark. For me, it's very easy to add a lot more detail to any map of mine, but I'm trying to see how stark I can make this without it being aesthetically boring.
