StarWarsKartikay's Saber

A while back me and a few friends of mine had made a Star Wars Movie, and for that I had made a saber handle prop to be used in the movie, but I never used it, so it was just sitting in my house, so recently I decided to take the saber and make a model for it for Jedi Outcast, here is the original Pircure for the saber:

I worked on this for about 15-20 minutes, it still needs more work, but let me know what you think of it:

It eludes me how so many newbie modelers have no clue about the concept of polygons.

In other words, it won't work. Tone down the polycount to something reasonable, then see what it looks like. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

"Rookie modeller" would have been a more tactful choice of wording, Thrawn...

Looks decent, but I guess Thrawn's right about the polycount.

I do know about Polycounts, the reason why it looks like that is b/c I just render the work just to take screenshots

Here are some more pics, and i know it looks like it's too many polies, and I know that i just render it at a high quality just to take the shots:

Way too much detail on the fins, but very nice.

That's incredibly detailed.

Probably too detailed, but very detailed.

Pretty nice.

It *looks* great, but who'd want to hold and/or swing something with fins and knobs and rings all over it?

Never saw what was wrong with just a plain metal tube.

Looks very unwieldy and uncomfortable, even if the fins are soft.

Super S51, he just types it into his post.

Looks good. It looks like it might be a little hard to hold onto, but otherwise nice.

Why would it be hard to hold? Has the same basic design as Luke's did.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean Luke's is easy to hold. I imagine Mark Hamill got blisters while shooting.

hey guys, thanks for all the advice and stuff, i know its too detailed, i had a idea recently, i want to make it very detailed and apply the textures so when I finally render it, it'll look very Realistic, once I can accomplish that, i'll i'll work from there downgrading it to get it into JO

Hmm. I think it's actually a pretty good lightsaber design. I would use it.

Erm, I dont see how the hell you can hold that thing without accidently pressing th off button. That is a big-*** button, way too easy to accidently press. And, like Checksum said, it would hurt like holy hell to hold it on those fins, since that is the only place that appears to be holdable. Plus, it doesn't look long enough to hold with two hands.

Why can't lightsaber handles be designed like tennis racket handles, without so much shiny metal? That way, it wouldn't go flying out of your hands if they are sweaty and you take a big swing.

All my nitpicking aside, your model looks amazing, and like the others said, you don't need that much detail.
DO NOT WANT.

hey guys, sorry i havn't updated in a while, but school has started, and i havn't had time to work on texturing and rendering the model, i'll probably get to it in a while, so if anyone is waiting for this to come out, don't worry, it will : )
