Kyle Katarn - Ghostbuster
2003-08-18, 2:27 AM #1
I've recently just made a model of Kyle Katarn as a Ghostbuster for Jedi Outcast. Only PROBLEM is that I dont have the required tools in order to convert it for use in Jedi Outcast. Just posting for people's opinions and the hope that maybe some one may be able to help me.

There in lies the problem. I dont have 3D Studio Max. Is there any other way to get the model in game? Every tutorial I read says that its needed.

Of course this is just a temporary model so people can enjoy it while I try to figure out a creative way to bring the Proton Pack in as a weapon.

Best thing I can think of is taking the heavy repeater and having it like Ghostbusters Doom. The old Jedi Knight trick doesnt work.

sweet model!

How to properly export, Thrawn sounds like to be the only one for that. Skinning, I would like to learn because I have a few models in which are pretty sexy that need texturing. The only real program in mind is MilkShake, you can do alittle less advanced modeling with it then you can with maya/3d max/poser/lilith tech/lightweave...

and export/import game models too!

2,092, excluding tags, since they don't get rendered.

PoloyCount, http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/jk2/tutorials/modeltutorial/modeltutorial1.shtml

Which has a model tutorial on JO editing more-less resorts to scripting the XSI interface. Ya dont need 3d max right away but its recomended that you use it. Yes I have baught it legit. That tutorial explains the hows to your model interfaceing. other then that I am trying to figure it out myself.

I will post in the help JO forum for a easy way or *Sigh* a way for newbs to better understand how to export for per request of thier models so I can export for them or give them the nessecary info so they can learn for them selfs. And no I wont skin!

Hey I'm proud to have cracked versions of most of those. I think of it this way, and the company that makes Maya does too actually, I'm just using these to learn how to use the programs and what not. If I was trying to make a profit off of my work with them, then I'd think it'd only be right to chuck out the hundreds/thousands of dollars to buy a licensed copy of what I'm using. I mention maya because they used to offer a full version absolutly free for educational use, and quite honestly I think thats the right way to go. Theres just no use for spending like 2,000 on a program only to find out it cant do what you need it for.

Discreet offers GMax.

Alias offers Maya PLE 5 (available for download in a few weeks; the past versions, PLE 4 and PLE 4.5, have been available for a long time).

Softimage offers Softimage|EXP.

The Houdini company (forget the name) offers Houdini Apprentice.

See what I'm getting at, here? There's now absolutely no justification for downloading retail software without paying for it, especially when game developers are working to get export options (maya ple -> ut2k3, softimage|exp -> half life 2, gmax -> bunch of slightly older games).

Did you even look at the tutorial? It is meant to be a guide for users with 3d Studio Max. I sure hope you aren't getting sick all over yourself.

Really? How much did it set you back?

Yes really. I got the cd off shelf from a 3d rendering company in town that works with 3d max studios "Discreet" or a multi somewhere in there a sister company to another company to another company which asscociates with discreet. I got it $900 canadian with the occasional works. The cd base itself was a original but there where additional cd's and a few packed with textures and animation files as a thank-you from them. Plus was apart of the package.

Good thing is that it doesnt take much thought to think of an alternate skin.

Thats the plan.

I plan on the release being 2 models, with 5 skins each model. (GB, GB2, Red, Blue, RGB) Of course the only model differences are Pack and no pack. I may decide to release a Slimeblower pack model also. Of course I dont even know how long it will be until I can actually get the model working unless I get some one to convert them for me.

Heck now that I think of it I may as well make the four Ghostbusters. I could also release a model with the Ecto-Goggles and maybe an Ecto-1 model for in game.
