Early terrain for what will become The Battle of Hoth, a Siege map for JA. The objective is to make the closest possible recreation of the Battle of Hoth, including AT-ATs, snowspeeders, the full seven floors of Echo Base (some are very small, like three are just one room), and perhaps you'll even see movie characters as NPCs, but I'm not sure how I'd work that into gameplay. You miss-spelled "enterance".

Looks good, it's huge though... Wouldn't it take forever to cross the map?

Nah... not when you get to ride on taun-tauns. And yeah... you want it to be realistically huge for a seige map.

Rebels will have speeders and tauntauns, Imperials will have AT-ATs and AT-STs, so no, not that long. However, it's not designed for some quick twenty minute game, it will likely end up much longer.

I really like your idea, Emon. I'd probobly get JA just to play this map if the map turns out well. It seems it would be a waste if you couldnt get around 32+ people to play on it at one time though..

It's 32 through the menu, I think you can force it up to 64 (lag is the issue then). Don't believe what the LEC site says. I mean, it says like, "16 players over LAN or internet in Jedi Outcast".

I like it, but is there anyway you can block the movement of a player through some sort of invisible barrier? If that's possible, then where you have the mountain barrier, you could replace it with the invisible barrier (or mabe something like BF1942 has where if you go off the map for too long you start loosing health), allowing the terrain to look more natural.

It occured to me, but I'm not a fan of invisible barriers. And besides, I checked the movie, and most of the area is surrounded by mountains.

Indeed, it is. Any way you might be able to 'layer' the mountain barrier? Wouldn't have to be much, but just something to kind of break it up a little. I see you've done some, perhaps exagerate it a bit more.

What do you mean? I'm going to make it less uniform looking, and I'll use a portal sky (3D skybox) so it doesn't look bad.

For gameplay, you might want to consider including some npc snowtroopers and echobase troopers for both sides.

I plan to. I'll probably make NPC counts proportional to the maxrate on the server so it isn't so slow.

Yeah, NPC characters would be good. If there aren't enough players I get that "lonely" feel.....especially on a map of the magnitude where there are supposed to be hundreds of soldiers.

Hmmmm.. Wonderful idea! I was actually planning an SP map for JO/JA that involved the player being a snowtrooper in a strike team. Too long-winded of an idea . . .

What are the objectives? Any clue yet?

Yes Naythn. The fight on Endor, specifically around/in the bunker if possible. (If I can figure out how to do it effectively I'd take a bit of artistic license to make it playable...)

Objectives look good, but it would be tactically a waste to disable the ion cannon with a power plant destroyed? Well, an objective instead might be to seize the cannon and use it to shoot down escaping rebel cruisers. Wouldn't that be fun?

JDKNITE, its a secondary objective, and thus, you dont need to do it to win. And because its a secondary objecttive there doesnt have to be any sequence of how things work, like primary objectives do. If the rebels see that imperials are taking over the ion cannon they could shut down the power themselves, so the transports would get away.

ermmm.. yeah

I hope that the objectives scripting for JA is alot easier than it is for ET... et scripts for building stuff and objectives are a pain in the ***.

I agree with Friend14, a layered mountain system would look nice. Just a gradual rise in inclination until it's too steep for the player to walk on.

Of course you'll need a cieling height for snowspeeders so they can't see over the mountains...

A max view distance will prolly be needed...

hmmm. yes, running around in partially lit Echo base would be incredibly fun. for sabotaging the power (which should be a MAIN objective for the Imps) I reccommend having several large power junctions (with access panels in the walls that reveal bundles of cable) which need to be detonated (perhaps two or three of these, since main power is important to the rebels)


That bunle o' wire thing would look good, just like in the movie too.


anyway, the plan looks great.
