The Bone in the lower front of its face forms a hollow and the muscles internally form sounds. In esscense it sounds like its talking through a mask. It takes in air through the back of its head and uses the organs on the side of its neck (bumps under the skin) to hear as noted . I guess the holes above the eyes are like for smell I guess, havnt quite worked that out...not like it matters too much anyway. Im open to suggestions [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

A quote from your Neo model:

"I don't have time to learn to model, you'll have to live without the trenchcoat and sunglasses. Sorry." - Jedi-Salvation

You lying Son of a gun, you said you couldn't model! Pfff, That model is better then all 236 models I've made, and that's a true blue fact. Now you have absolutely NO excuse to redo the Neo skin, period.

I still say it's extremely original, and looks nothing like a Protoss. If you skin this with as much excelence as I know you have, then I will love you, give you many Ten's on your models and skins, then feed you my first born... hell, my last born too.

lol kirby. thanks. Ive gotten the model capped and everything, but im starting to confuse myself on what to do next. Ive read spacemonkeys tutorial about 4 times by now but im still having trouble. I may have to weld the whole thing back together to form it around the stupid skeleton...not looking foward to that. I dont know how to use 3ds Max yet so thats going to slow the progress here greatly, i modeled the mesh in lightwave. I had to redo the arms at the shoulder because it was too messy there and couldnt segment it properly. Anyway, does anybody know of an easier tutorial for bones set up and segmentation and all that besides spacemonkeys and the addendum? Or would anybody like to help me with this? I could use the advice from somebody whos done it before.

Just a minor suggestion, but he's a pretty short little dude. I'm not sure what you had in mind, but personally I'd make his legs a little thicker and huskier and (perhaps) a little longer. In any case, I love the protoss look to this guy.

At that polycount, given the current flow and shape, I wouldn't suggest he take out anything.

Why does the face have more bones then the rest of his body? Are there facial expressions in JO!? I've never really took time to notice dissan's facial expressions as I pound him against the wall...

Final polycount (after poly-triple) 3304.

Is that acceptable? i know theres like a 500 poly limit to each segment and there are 9 segments or something like that... :-/

Godly.

------------------
2003-09-02, 2:03 PM #38
Yes, that is a fine poly count. There's a 1024 vertex limit for each node of an MD3 model, and no limit on GLMs.

Kirby, JO has facial expressions and automatic lip syncing, just like every other relatively modern game.

Two things,

The first? What modeling app didja use? Sure ain't 3d max or milkshape or rinoceros.. Gmax? XSI maybe? Cuz XSI is the primary modeling tool used for most of ravens modeling. Secondary is 3d max.

Secoundly, 1024 for poloys is a limit for any guns or objects in a game? and if I read you correctly, player models have no limit? Inclduing NPC's?

Why would you be shocked at the use of 3ds max? It's great modeling software, Raven uses softimage|XSI because it can natively export to the dotXSI format they need, and probably personal preference on behalf of the modelers.

MD3s have a 1024 vertex limit for each node. Nodes, objects, meshes, it's all the same. An example would be a single hand or arm segment, or the magazine or scope of a gun. MD3s should only be used for map models (which have been phased out by PicoModels for new models), and internal gun models.

As far as I know, the GHOUL2 or GLM model format doesn't have any limits, but I would have to check the specifications in the code. If there are any limits, it isn't likey you would hit them any time soon.
