Suggestions- what's the best method to color a vector-outlined image?

Other suggestions are welcome too I guess... if you pay me.

Original - drawn by hand on paper, picture taken with a webcam
[http://bellsouthpwp.net/C/o/Correction/hillarysketch.jpg]

Vectorized - a layered combination of vector shapes and lines made in PSP6

Add the eyes to the enhanced one and you should be fine.

Nice drawing by the way. You got skillz.

Thanks!

Yeah, I'll put in the eyes when I do color because I don't plan to have them outlined.. my problem is comming up with an easy and good-looking procedure to color it, since all the lines are vectors. :x

Right, I got that... I'm trying to figure out the purpose behind actually saying that though... (and whether I was supposed to take that as a good or bad thing)

Um, isn't Manga the japanese word for comic?

Anyways, I like the drawing. I'd say convert the vector masks to raster layers, and then flatten the image. You'd be able to color it real easy then. But on the other hand, I don't really know much about PSP6, or even what I'm talking about, so maybe look into checking some art websites like DeviantArt and check out some tutorials.

Good luck. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I can't do it like that because of the antialiasing... a fill tool will only get all the pure white, and I don't trust myself enough to use a pen tool to fill in all the little gaps perfectly. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I just tried it with your jpeg:

heres what to do in photoshop:

go to Select > Color Range and play about, with the original image (Not jpeged) it should be easier. I'll keep trying though.

Well i've done it in photoshop with a transparent background but whenever I save it as a bmp, gif or whatever it anti-alias' it. I can save it in grayscale though.

This is purley black and white so it works, but its jagged.

Your best bet would be to use a vector based program...I.E.- Adobe Illustrator or Flash 4/5/MX. Id recomend flash, even though you may not be animating it. It has a trace bitmap function the will turn your lines into actual lines then when you fill it in there are no AA gaps. just a suggestion if you have the resource.

Nice job btw

[nevermind, I misread your post]
And JEDI-Salvation, I made it in PSP using vectors and still have the original file with everything saved in vector form [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

On a side note, something I did try was turning off antialiasing, then fill everythingin witha fill tool, then turn antialiasing on again... and that worked really good for the most part except on the skirt it left some gaps where the lines for the wrinkles were blurred [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] Not sure how that happened, but apparently when antialiasing was turned on again it didn't like up right... holy O.o and I just had an idea. Imma gunna go try this [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Ah, I've got it now [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
It was really pretty simple... Now I feel kinda silly for asking [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Now all I've got left to do are the eyes, the little jewel on her choker thingie, and shading X_x

Yah, right now the shadow under her nose looks like her mouth, but that'll change when you add the eyes.

It was pretty simple really... I just made a new layer under the lines for each color, set a brush to about size 20 and density to 100, then filled colored in what I wanted, making sure to go outside the lines by about half the brush, then used the majic wand tool to select all the color outside the lines and delete it, and used the eraser on size one (zoomed in alot) to clean up the outside of the lines... it was pretty slow but it worked really well.

Yeah, I just kinda outlined the shadow for referance really... I'll probably take it out later and replace it with actual shading.
