Something I threw together while I was bored. Been forever since I made something like this...

Beware, it's a big image (1024x768). I like to work big. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I like it all but the strange scratch-like marks next to the light.

Looks great, but I'd steer clear of the sunburst filter.

... There is no sunburst filter in photoshop...

Unless you mean the lens flare.

I added that because without it, the sun looks like garbage. It's all effect around the edges and nothing in the center. The lens flare helps with that a bit.

It looks wrong having everything interesting in its own corner of the image... Nice work though, I'd use it as a background if it didn't look as artificial/static as this..

Ah yes the lens flare, the most overused photoshop effect. It doesn't look so bad in this though. The composition does leave a lot to be desired. All your planets and the sun are cropped and floating off the image and you have a big empty space in the center of the image. It looks akward, there's nothing to catch the eye. The sun looks too solid, and the light that it's emitting is hitting the planets in a really strange way.

I really don't see what everyone hates about lens flare so much, what else should he use? it just makes sense.
Having everything in the corners is a little odd, and the moon looks somehow strange.
Other than that, nice! I really like the dusty bit that JK didn't like.

The sun doesn't look right... I mean you can see a circle inside the corona, that'd never be possible with something as bright as the sun. It's even slightly shaded.

The gas cloud near the sun looks a bit odd, the rest is nice.

now you're asking yourself, did I say I liked it just because you didn't?

It's generally overused. People without any artistic talent always stick one or two into an image just to make it look more 'professional'. Now I'm not saying this is the case here, I was merely commenting that the lens flare is generally a really overused effect. here it doesn't looks so bad.

I can agree with that. I've seen FAR to many cases where a lens flare has been used WAY wrong and out of place. If used correctly however, it can be a nice touch.

The circle inside the corona is a problem. I could make it smaller, but then it looks more like a sun burst instead of a sun. I tried to correct it with the lens flare. It furthers, to an extent, the illusion of a bright object. But you can only crank it so far before your image starts to wash out. I think that was set to about 150 or 200 with a gradient overlay ontop so it didn't continue past the planets. Any bright than that and, as I said, the image washes out. Before that even happens though, you loose the detail of the sun itself.

Having everything in the corners was a mistake. It seemed at the time that where ever I placed them they looked wrong. In the coners they just looked... less... wrong. Yea.

Keep in mind this is something I haven't tried to do in at least a year. I was playing around, it looked semi cool, and I KNOW it's not nearly as cool as it could be. To be honest, I'm curious as to why no one has quesitoned the rings on the bottom planet. Those are REALLY shoddy looking.

I'm working and expirimenting on a newer picture now...

it looks ok, you could make something really nice but you didnt seem to use your space well

the whole center of the image is open, you need to toss something in there. oh and you light flare is a little much and i think it would look great somewhere else.

other than that it is awesome
