U.S.S. Yorktown (New ST Project)

Let me clear something up first...this project is different from the one in which I posted screenshots of earlier this year.

This model was built for my current project, in which I posted screenshots of earlier this month. This one takes place during the Original Series. The bridge shots which made SotD are part of this current project.

Anyway, the finished U.S.S. Yorktown, the "star" ship in this project. I'm glad I finally got this out of the way first off, so I won't have to do it later on when I'm lazy.

It features blinking formation lights and an animated nacelle dome.

It doesn't look crappy enough for the original series. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I think it should be different from the Enterprise in more ways.

While I liked the original series quite a bit, I rather liked the much sleeker-looking newer series' ships. Well done, but I'd like to see you do a Soverign class. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Yummy.

One thing bugs me, though. What's with the white rectangles on the inboard surfaces of the nacelles? I don't recall seeing those on any previous models.

Otherwise, looks terrific. Even the proportions are correct.

He's just individualizing it, not every Constitution-class ship looks exactly the same (carp, now everyone is gonna think I'm a trekie [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]).

Firefox: I added those to give the inside of the nacelles some character. And yes, since this is not the Enterprise, I can pretty much modify small details to my fitting, at the same time keeping it a Constitution-class ship.

Or you could look at it as if I am enhancing the ship to be more detailed than the series. For one, the model used during the filming of the original series did not have the grid lines on the saucer, nor did it have the tiny ridges encircling the engineering hull (those gridlines were added to the model now hanging up in the Smithsonian). The same with the white "lights" along the inside of the nacelles....these may not have been there in the series, but definetly convey the concept that some kind of energy output takes place here (during the making of The Motion Picture, the idea was conceived that when a ship was in warp, a stream of blue/violet energy appeared between the two nacelles. This idea of a visible energy stream was not followed up with, but doesn't rule out the possiblilty that invisible energy does exist between the nacelles when a ship is in warp).

Exactly what I thought. It looks better then the "special effects" of the original series! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

You're exactly right about there being an energy transfer between the nacelles. The two warp drives DO work together to make the warp field (this comes from Roddenberry's own rules of starship design).
