Observation Lounge (Original Star Trek)
2003-10-03, 4:14 PM #1
Okay, okay. This area is not seen during the Original Series, nor was it known to exist on the original Enterprise...but, since this is the USS Yorktown, I created from scrath an Observation Lounge, used for officer-level briefings, formal dining, and diplomatic functions. Located in the aft-most section of Deck 3, it provides an unspoiled view of the warp nacelles of the ship and the space beyond (yeah, the idea of seeing the ship through the windows inspired me to do this area).

Note: There was a smaller briefing room on the Enterprise during the original series, but it was pretty boring. I will add that one as well as I work on Deck 7.

The ship is the same 3DO I built last week, only full scale and part of the upper saucer removed.

And to show off this plant I made to decorate this room.
*Note that the picture of the Yorktown hanging on the wall is a screenshot of my Constitution-class 3DO.

I want to say that it looks TOO nice. Or perhaps a bit more constructive, it looks too much like the movies/newer series. Not enough of the reds and yellows and old-school screens and such. Then again, it looks SO nice, especially the view outside the window...*drool*

But yes, ******, I want to play this! Hell, I just want to take a ship tour! It looks so freakin' SWEET!

Gebohq: Yeah, it does look a little too nice for the early-kirk era, but I thought that I'd make it look nicer than most areas seen in the show since it's an area that wasn't in the original episodes.

There is plenty of red though. The carpet and doors, for example. Yellow wasn't seen throughout much of the ship except for the colored lighting, which I've decided not to use heavily in my level to give it more of a realistic starship feel.

About the viewscreens: The one you see in these shots (the UFP logo) is just a temporary screen until I make some "old-school" texture for it.

Looks good, but I think I should point out that we did see it, in STTMP. The room's design looks exactly like that (which leads me to think that you copied it), but it was laid out more like a 70s/80s lounge than that.

------------------
2003-10-08, 1:29 PM #30
Jon`C: Yes, it is true that an VIP dining lounge was on the refitted Enterprise in ST:TMP, in the exact same spot as this briefing room. However, there is no evidence that an officer's lounge such as this existed on the original Enterprise, before it was refitted. As a matter of fact, in many cross-sections of the original Enterprise, it shows some kind of machinery where this room would be. I used the TMP design as inspiration (i have the schematics of the TMP version), but did not copy it. I promise you, there are many differences.
