Uber Jedi Suite - Patch Enforcer Beta
2003-10-02, 3:37 PM #1
I am proud to announce my first noteworty contribution to the Jedi Knight community... I have made a replacement for the excelent Patch Commander, called Patch Enforcer. Why, you ask? Well, I have had various problems with Patch Commander over the years, including slow loading times. So I was inspired to make my own clone!

Download here: http://mzzt.atronox.com/Private/ujs_patch.zip

Some people have reported having problems with my site, others none. I appologize if you can't download it, if too many people have a problem I can upload it to GeoS$%^ies.

Here is a comparison between PC and PE:
- PE loads quicker than PC because it gathers lass gob information. However, it cannot give said detailed gob information, nor can it check for patch conflicts.
- PE shows all JK and MotS patches in one screen with handy icons for clarity, no switching between games.
- PE allows you to install and delete patches with ease... or even mothball patches.
- PE has a refresh button so you don't have to restart it if you move patches around.
- PE has a "Turn off all patches now" option, so you don't accidentally put two patches on at once.
- PE doesn't have annoying sounds... ok the truth is I can't do sounds. So what. :P
- PE has the fabled legendary "Gebohq Easter Egg"... those with old alpha copies of PE can scour the source code for a hint on how to enable it.

Of course, PC has it's Repository, GOB Viewer, and Conflict Detection Thingy... I've never used them, have you? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

This IS a beta, please send me bug reports at the_mega_zzter@yahoo.com... but one thing tho, this is NOT a bug:
- Sorting the list is disabled, it will not sort when you click the column headers. This is intentional.

Have fun!

The download appears to be corrupt. Additionally, I can offer a mirror for this if you like Mega.

I can't run the program becuase I don't have MotS installed. You need to add JK exclusive support.

I wish I could use MotS, but every time I run the game it gives me "???????????????????????????????" crap or something like that.

If it unzips ok but doesn't run, make sure that it is run from it's own directory, so it can find it's precious icon files.

If the download is indeed corrupt, CoolMatty tells me he's mirroring it on his server.

http://www.geocities.com/the_mega_zzter/ujs_patch.zip

and there is another download.

[Edit: MrRavenX you can use it without MotS. You have just submitted your first bug report, thanks!]

Indeed. New version uploaded, it now works if there is no MotS registry entry and you select "Cancel".

Technical Note: The variable that stored the MotS Directory was set to 0 when this happened. An exist() function was called to check to see if the directory existed (to see if the user had given a valid directory). But it could not be called with MotSDir as an integer, so it went blooey. Feh... the library I use for the Win32 API doesn't allow for hotkeys to menu items / buttons I think... but I will check into it just incase I am wrong...

Open mIRC, press CTRL-A, and paste this:

/JK /run -p C:\path\toJK\jk.exe -path $1

Then type /JK modname (optional)

stop ruining my fun! :'( j/k

Actually GBK can do:

Code:
/alias /F9 /run -p c:\jkpath\jk.exe -path jkpatch\active

(whatever -p does) and he can use his F9 when he's in mirc. If he uses mirc. Which he doesn't as far as I know... oh well... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I don't see a "Use active patches on the Internet Gaming Zone" button...
2003-10-03, 4:12 PM #19
Whoops, I had left that out because previously I hadn't known how to change the registry...

I will put one in, I figured out what the PC one did a while ago. It just tweaks the DirectPlay entry for JK and MotS.

[Edit: I've implemented that feature, and another one that will automatically cache GOB information, so it'll load faster next time you start PE up. You can also modify this cache to change GOB names or descriptions, or add some for mods which don't have any... but there's no formal method of doing this, maybe later I'll add something in the GUI for it, but for now you have to use the Registry Editor.]

B.U.M.P.

C'mon guys, at least post if you've downloaded it and not had any problems. I want to know about THAT too.

I plan to release v1.0 in a few days, I would like some help in making sure it's bug free.

[Edit: My new post didn't show up after gothicX's... this is really annoying...

gothicX, if you can give me more details, I may be able to help you with your problem, and fix the bugs in PE that are causing them. If you are willing, I'll send you a special version of PE that will generate some useful information if it crashes, that you can send back to me for analysis.

But please don't say something so vague as "This is buggy." That doesn't help me fix it at all!]

-_-

I am thinking about it, I told you that before [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]. I wanna implement Dark Forces first, because I made a program to manage Dark Forces mods/levels, but it's DOS only and PE would be a good base to add Windows support... I might even rename PE into Dark Frontend, the name of the said DOS Dark Forces Frontend.

Then I will add JO/JA (maybe).

But the v1.0 release will only have support for JK and MotS.

[Edit: Thanks for the encouragement Qpan!]

What language are you writing this in?
2003-10-06, 4:12 AM #27
Well, I have no C++ or VB Windows compiler(s), so I'm stuck with third-party (as in not made by a major "player", like MS) languages. But I've found a real nifty third-party language that's quite interesting... http://www.rapideuphoria.com/ is it's official website, it's shareware.

needs the abbility to open up patches from zips, and seperate levels from mods.

Maybe include a Level manager in a seperate window maybe??

If you add patch conflicts, be sure to have a feature that removes it. I have certain patches that require mixing. always had to do it manuelly with patch commander.

I do not have a library for opening up ZIPs, so I cannot provide ZIP support.

I do plan to include a laval manager with Uber Jedi Suite, read the PE readme for detaiks.

Because PC read in the complete file list from a GOB, it was able to do patch conflicts...my PE does hot do this (its supposed to be FASTER than PC, not slower [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]) so there is no patch conflict feature. Which I am actually liking, surprisingly (maybe because you couldn't turn PC's off...).

GhostOfYoda wants to bring MassServ back to #massgames, and if he does it will have the ability to launch all your Patch Enforcers when the game starts (don't worry, you have to explicitly install a mIRC script before it can).

Also gammasts is working on a purely mScript version of PE (not sanctioned by me [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]).

I guess I'm almost ready for a final release... if you have encoutered any quirks or buugs within the program, PLEASE let me know so I can fix them. Secondly, I probably weill not be introducing any new features into 1.0 (unless they're really REALLY nifty [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]).

Since MZZT allowed me to make it, there is PE for mIRC. This is for you JKers in #massgames too. It will be fully functional with all the features in regular PE just that it loads up inside mIRC, which would load smoother and uses less ram. Here is what it looks like so far: [http://ut2k3net.com/PE2.jpg]

(Note: The example in there is a dummy, its not functional yet.)

Makeing it all work isnt the biggest problem, the reading of the description for the file is. If anyone knows a way to retrieve the description from a gob, please let me know. It must be some formula that will work with all. Reading files is not a problem, but opening them up and reading a file is.

MZZT has the right to the program as I am just coding it. PE for mIRC will come as a standalone and as part of a JK module for UXS.
