My upcoming level. this is only my second one, so go easy, and i'm no pro at lighting (obviously). anyway, hope it doesn't look to bad compared to my last JK MP effort, Sector 3027-AA.

Looks good!

I would love it if you made the floor in the hanger look reflexive.

Looks pretty good, but I suggest getting some new textures.

EDIT: Which editor did you use.

Looks a tad boxy, but before I see boxy I see horrible texturing. Use textures that actually tile pretty.

Lighting IS your friend. Other than all that, you've got some good starting skills.

I don't like the floor texture too musch. It is a bit...common.

Do you think making the hanger floor reflexive is too hard? If you did that, this would be the first JK level I seen with a nice hanger effect..

It's been done, but its hard as hell and it kills framerates if there is anything more than a shuttle in the hanger. It requires you to duplicate the room, upside down, and make the floor translucent. So not only are you doubling the polygons, your using a translucent texture, which only adds to the problems.

I did that in JED once. Making the floor reflexive may kill the framerate, I guess.

Thanx for the overall positive feedback. Yeah. sthe textures are a bit repetitive in those particular shots, but that's only a small portion of the whole level.
The lighting in the first shot has been fixed up.
As with the whole reflective floor, i wouldn't be able to do it considering, if you look in the first shot, you'll see a hole in the floor. there is more areas underneath the floor. I agree it would be **** pretty, but as has been said, it would be slow, and i'd be currint into other sectors so it'd look horrible.
I used JED by the way. i dislike JKEdit muchly. I stared using it for my first level Sector 3027-AA, but realised i was barely half done and i'd reached my sector limit, and it looked horrible.
Any way, i'll take into acount the whole texturing thing, but i like some of the textures there, and i'm lazy.
Where can i get some really good mats that would suit the level?

I applaud you for making those textures actually look pretty good in this level.

However, I do agree with the majority of.. people.. that you probably want to get better ones. massassi has countless mediocre levels with standard textures all over the place, but not many good levels with good textures..

As I can see from the other shots you're not lacking in skills when it comes to architecture and detail.. so you might wanna use those skills more on the main hangar area. It looks very bland.

Dude, there would not be a JA or JA if it weren't for how cool JK is.

As far as the level goes, it looks great, but the hangar needs a new texture or two. It seems that everything blends together. If only we knew where some cool Star Destroyer textures were, we'd be in business.

Yeah, i realise the hangar is a little bland and empty. I'm gonna throw a few crates or somethin in there, although it's not like hangars really have alot in them.

I think everyone has said 'most everything in reply to that odd fellow who indirectly said JK was not as good as JO. Graphically, he/she is correct. As far as storyline goes, jk's levels really keep in line with the whole thing and don't have stupid things like floating box rooms in a big pit and no real way to get to them except by jumping about with the force. how many imperial guys use the force? about 3. anyway, my point is JK has a really awesome feel about it, even thought the archi isn't as smooth as outcast.

hmmm. i seem to have reeeeealy long posts recently.

so does anyone know where i can get some cool mats that would suit a SD? please?

Wow, it's the first JK level based on a Star Destroyer that actually looks like a Star Destroyer. Good job! If you made the bridge and showed a pic here that would be awesome...I'm sure you'd make it accurate to the movies.

Looks pretty true to the ISD layout. Some areas are a little boxy..but..some..areas..are..boxy..so, it's fine.

Also, I have a friendly tip for the people hijacking this thread with their argument: stop.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

I would make the bridge (and yes i would make it as true to the movies as i could(from memory)), but if you know anything about the layout of a Star Destroyer you'd know that they are quite...sizeable. considering this is a DM level, i don't wanna make it too damned big. If i make a SP version (IF) then i'd prolly have a bridge and make the whole thing a series of levels coz it would be so **** big.

Just thought i'd let ya know that i've retextured the floor of the two hangars (still an LEC mat). I'm thinking of keeping with LEC mats. i can't be bothered getting new ones. i might get one or two though. i'll see.

It needs lighting, and a better choice of textures in the small hallways. Otherwise, the archi fits fine with the level.

The new shots are nice.

With the comments on JK and JO/JA editing, in my personal experience, it is easier to make better maps with the Q3 engine than with JK, becuause of the brush/patch system. It's just easier, because you don't have to worry where you need to segment your sectors to make your archi work and now hom and stuff... ok I gtg so I can't elaborate heh...

Needs much better texturing. JK/MotS textures are good for small, enclosed areas, and aren't as good for large, expansive areas such as the star destroyer hangar. Plus JK textures are all 8-bit, even though the engine supports 16-bit.

Try making your own textures. I know, I know, it's too much to learn. But it pays off in the end. The more practice you get making your own textures now, the better looking end-result you have.

I recommend PaintShopPro version 6.0 (I hear that the earlier versions were easier to use, but the later versions do have more functions) to build your textures.

They often give away older versions of programs on magazine coverdisks in an effort to get people to buy the newer version. I had PSP4 for several years via this method. Keep your eyes open.

Also, you can download a demo of PSP from the JASC website: http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp

Another option is to go for The GIMP. This is open source, so the complete program can be downloaded for free.
