I REALLY REALLY need some quick input

http://murc13.homestead.com/files/demo.mp3

Please download this and tell me what you think. It's NOT the final, it's just a test for guitar sounds and everything. The final will have vocals and some more stuff added.

I need to know:
1. Are the guitar sounds okay?
2. Does the tambourine sound okay, or does it seem out of place?
3. Any other comments?

Thanks in advance. This is a really important project for me, I want to make it the best it can be.

It's nice so far, but it defenitely not done yet. The tambourine seems fine to me. I like the stereoeffect it has. The song is in desperate need of vocals! Myabe a bit of drums wouldn't hurt either, as long as it's not to prominent.

thanks for replying

yes, vocals will be added, they'll add a lot to the song. I can work on some drum stuff...the only problem is I don't own any drums. We'll see.

I was just talking to someone else, I just wanted to say again, this is NOT the entire nor the final song. There is much more to the song.

I think the second guitar that comes up after the halfway mark needs to be more prominent. Its a great beat though, and I think drums would actually make it worse.

yeah, drums might make it a little worse, the tamborine takes the place of them. It's sounds really good so far!

As the song started up it kind of reminded me of something you'd hear off of Led Zeppelin III. Do you like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

wow...I leave for an hour and get all these replies. thanks for all the input!

Sol (and everybody) - I'll be sure to upload the song when I finish it so you can all hear it with vocals and such.

Poggle - No, actually I don't listen to them. Maybe I should...

Let's see...
Starts fine. Right off I notice that the guitar is buzzy. It's actually not that bad, but you said you wanted this to be the best it can.

Guitar EQ needs work too, try a light compression and bring out freqz range around 300-700hz and a small boost to 10-12khz.

Tambourine is nice, no advice except the panning will be distracting to about 30% of people. I've had a ton of problems where most people said it was fine, but just enough said it bugged them to were I had to mellow it out a bit. It's mostly just the part where it goes (L-R) quickly. Stereo effects can be achieved without distraction. What I usually do is open up just the track in question (in this case, the tambourine) and play it while watching a spectral analyzer (comes with almost any recording suite). Tweak compression and saturation till you achieve the desired effect (the analyzer will help you from making the sound too thin, especially if you don't have good speakers).

Besides one part where I had a slightly off chord change, it's really good. It's good now, and lyrics could either make it better or destroy it (depending on what they are).

hmmm. yes i think you should listen to Led Zeppelin (and prolly the Floyd too), considering they are one of the best bands in the world. Stairway to Heaven was so popular, they eventually refused to play it coz they got so sick of it. that's what i heard anyway.

Play it to a metronome ([EDIT: by way of headphones so only you can hear it and not the recording]) and I *might* be able to record a live drum track for you. Kinda hard to find time at the moment...
