*pauses for booing to stop*

I finally got around to retexturing my canyon oasis remake. Most of the textures are LEC Academy textures due to my inexperence with textures (i.e. they look almost totally unlike what I want). A few I found other places. I think it looks pretty good now. I created a portal skybox with moving clouds. Anyways heres the shots tell me what it needs. Please don't post if you hated the original [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] . Thanks [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

It definitely needs embellishing. Give it some real terrain, for starters.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

This one's a bit darker than the oroginal canyon oasis. It would be cool if you could make the canyon walls look more realistic, but don't bother if it means you won't release it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Can do [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] I'll try and add some patchs after school. Also I have to get rid of that ugly water texture. I thought it looked better darker. It was brighter but I switched from SOF2MAP to Q3MAP2 and all hell broke loose [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] .

The new walls are looking good. Keep it up.

Also, is it just me, or did you texture the walkway sides with the lightmap file, instead of the actual texture itself?

You're on the right track, but the rock wall looks too uniform as I'm sure you know. It needs some breaks and 'randomness' to it. Also, the stone walkways and ramps should have some rockiness (sp) to it as well, but not as dramatic as the walls.

I like the over-all layout of the map... and I agree with Sine Nomen and DSettahr.. Enhance the terrain, make it more realistic.

you need to change the texturing a bit. the dark walls combined with light floors give the entire map a caved-in feeling. it would feel much more open if you didn't contrast your textures so much.

Looks like a good beginning, add some terrain and some plants would be cool if it's possible. Maybe some boulders or something sticking out of the ground?

Finished with the patches. I'm leaving parts of the level flat to make it look carved in places and natural in others if that makes sence. Anyways heres the most recent shots. I also added plants but I don't have ss's of them.

Rock walls still need a bit of work. Try to make it more random. I like where this map is going though.

For the look of the rock walls and such, think like Canyon Oasis was built from a naturally occuring phenominon. The original shape was there, just improved with bridges, ramps, and tunnels. Make sense?

There should be no smooth surface and uniformity anywhere there is rock. But you're getting the general shape of things. Keep at it, you are definitely improving.

EHm.. those curves aren't exactly nicely textured, they're stretched out waaaaaaaaaaay too much near the edge.. CAP isn't always the best solution. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

"round" the corners if you're going to do jagged rocks. very few rock formations in real life meet at a ninety degree angle.

also, just a suggestion for you on the little ledge that the ramp creates in the first pic on your last post. the three round patches look out of place. i'd say that a long, jagged piece of rock that rests or slopes into the wall/ramp would look a little more fluid. it could also make the metal platform look functional for once. that stupid platform always made me chuckle while playing in jk 'cause it stuck out like a sore thumb.

You might also want to fix the water texture O_o I can count the individual rows of the texture. (sort of makes it seem like those olympic swimming pools)

Still looks like JK. Try spicing it up a bit by having no definete floors. Having pertrudings, nooks, and cranies instead of completely flat and colorless floors make the level look no better than the original. You could REALLY make the level with identical gameplay, but a beautiful level of atmousphere and effects.

PLEASE use more textures, and PLEASE try to realize that it wasn't boxy because that's what they wanted, it's was boxy because the software they used to design it was NOT JED, and the game is 6 years old.

This level could be one of my first downloads with my new computer, but the only way you'll get there is good looks, since I know the level plays well.

The catwalk can use more detail as well. Maybe adding some lights sticking out of it, beveling the edges, or even adding a guardrail might make it look better.
