Blowing off some STEAM

And no, this thread (like my last similarly titled thread), this has no connection to GBK.

As my system is being prepped for a reformat (which will probably happen this weekend) i've elected not to do any more work on my map until everything is brand spankin new (well... as far as software goes).

Ahem. anyway, as people seem to be posting their gfx work and as i plan to write the STEAM install file to CD (for those of you who just plain don't follow Half-Life, STEAM is the replacement for WON so HL and CS gamers can still play online [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]) I've decided to post a CD label design.

comments? suguestions? flames about the fact that this has nothing whatsoever to do with tJK JO or JA? Crickits chirping in the background?

I like the design. Now if you could just get your circles to be circles... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Let me explain. In an earlier thread ( to a Steambath") Zell and Echoman gave refrences to you.

Thanx for all of your tips. the curves on the large STEAM logo are there to stay unfortunately (my system nearly crashed the last time i created it because it IS a vector and without either much ram or the cash to increase the ammount of ram... well....). But i am working on the curved text, hopefully u will have that problem fixed by saturday.

In other news, i have a couple of questions for all of you: is there any way to compress a file without making it impossible to open on the CD, and how do you make an autorun file?

Thanx for your time.

Yes, because "Ode To Something" is what I usually end up calling my MP levels. Its a kind of trademark...

Here's instructions on making an autorun file for your CD. Create a file in Notepad that you will save as "autorun.inf". The contents should look something like this:
Code:
[autorun]
icon=icon.ico
open=path\program.exe

The icon command sets the icon that will be shown in My Computer, and if that is the only command in your autorun.ini it will open a Window displaying the contents of your CD.

The open command opens any file on the CD. Here we're opening an .exe, but it works for .htm, .txt, etc. Make sure the paths are correct for all the files you list, including the icon.

Just burn this autorun.ini file to the root directory of the CD-ROM, that is, don't place it in any folders on the CD-ROM.
There you go!

Thanx for your help. i supose that there wouldn't be any way of making a simple GUI without any knowlege of coding, would it?

Why? The contents in an autorun file are so brain-dead simple that such a program is simply not needed. If anyone needed to know how to do it, just tell them what Kievan Mereel told you. It'll save people time in the long run. If you REALLY wanted too, I could whip up a javascript-coded html page or a flash-powered program that'll do the output of the autorun file for you.
