No... Not a new alien that bites people's heads off, lays eggs in their throats, or bursts out of your chests... I'm talking about an old spectrum game. Was my favourite when I was old enough to handle a joystick. 5 I think... Anyway... Can anyone guess on what my next project is?

Alien8 requires a good Sinclair ZX80 Spectrum emulator.

Emulators aren't illegal.

If you own the game, Roms aren't illegal. If not, your aloud to have the roms on your computer for 24 hours.

Yay, the self-apointed moderators are on the job again! Woowhoo! Shuddap.

I could be wrong, but I believe the second screen shot is Edwards remake of the game in Jedi Knight. Hence the reference to the rom and emulator.

Looks interesting. Any other screen shots?
Lyrics are highly overrated.

Actually, It is illegal to have roms for any amount of time, even 3.14159 seconds.

Soooooooooooo,

Close this thread!

I'm looking really hard for a reason to close this thread, but I can't find one.

For the record however, Zanardi is wrong, it's illegal to have roms you don't own on your computer for any length of time.

How about someone actually loads the site before jumping all over Edward about illegal stuff? The first link is just a site about old games with a few screen captures and some information, the second link is just an emulator site (which are perfectly legal provided they aren't produced from reverse-engineering).

So, if it's illigal to have an old game for such a long time, then why are these games available for download?
By the way, I have the original DISK! Only... too dusty to play... So I downloaded, AND WENT MAD!

But let me guess on what you'd like on the remake...
Better textures, Co-op, a movie intro, a pinch of lighting... How about 2 versions? Close to original and JK style?

And sorry, only one screen-shot cause I only did one room to start with... But I'll continue!

I would suggest letting the walls end like they did in the origional game (see screenshot) you could easily do this by making it in texture form. Overal you could add more detail, like to the doorways and little thingies on the walls.
Very interesting idea!

Might I suggest a darker green with intense lighting, rather then bright textures.

(I haven't checked any of the following for bad language etc, but i'm pretty certain they don't have links to ROMS)

http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/help/hmisc_1.html
http://members.emulationworld.com/starting.html (at the bottom)
http://www.dragoneyestudios.net/index.php?page=help (under "where can I find roms?")

Now finally, to top it all off:

http://www.siia.net/piracy/copyright/24hr.asp

Edit:

I just noticed I was slightly wrong too, it's illegal to download roms regardless, the backup copy you have on your computer must be a copy you have made yourself

With regards to the showcase, the second shot is definitely better, I would do the boxes as accurately modelled 3dos rather than architecture. Notice how in the screen-capture the centres of the side faces are sloped inwards on all sides?

I see... Only one problem with 3DOs...
I'd Pulverise the limit in no time if I'm going to do an exact replica... I'll show you the level map!

You could use that silly system of GBK's to effectively remove the thing limit. On the other hand it shouldn't be too hard to make the blocks accurately out of architecture.

Bit of a choice to make [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Why is that so hard to make out of sectors? One extrude and two cleaves.

JediKirby, that can't work, because JK doesn't have anything to make saturated light.

The "proof" you have I seriously doubt is proof.

I know a little history, and I know that a ROM site INVENTED the 24-hour rule, proabaly to justify what they were doing and make them feel better.

And, I even have a little bit of evidence to mback me up.

Many Nintendo manuals (and possibly others) state that you cannot have or make any archival/backup copies of games. This includes ROMs.

Just wanted to clarify things. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

And Edward, that looks awesome. But in your reference pic, aren't the blocks more cement block shaped?

Looks awesome tho, heh.
