A teaser:

This was taken last year. Since then, I've added the funnels and lifeboats. To get an idea of the scale, she's 14.5 inches long. At that scale, I would a certain spider named Charlotte to do the rigging for me. 1:720 scale is too thin for regular fishing line.

Holy ****....

Dude, are you considering going into the movie industry to do special effects models? That's just freaking awesome... I'd never have the patience to do that.

Yep, it is.

Heh, I remember I got that ship as a model kit to my 14th birth day. Should've been the same size .) But didn't look half as good as that one!

I can't find any more recent photos, so here's some earlier ones:

You can tell I was trying to paint the interior brass. The idea was to let it leak into the portholes, and achieve the brass outline for each. Didn't work, though.

A shot of the bow before I added vents and railings.

Overall, again, before I added vents and railings.

January will mark the second year since I started it. I would have finished it sooner had I decided not to add rigging early on. Anyway...

Here's a rough outline for what I want to do with the display. The Builder's Plaque in the middle is definitely going to be there, but I haven't decided what to put on either side of it. Thoughts?

(It's the Titanic for anyone who hasn't figured it out yet.)

Photos of the two main characters from Jame Cameron's movie [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Seriously, haven't a clue. Vereh vereh nice though. I remember briefly taking a crack once of doing a model of the Enterprise-D and painting the shades of grey, but at the time (it was before high school, I think) I just didn't have the interest for the time it took. Much respect to your dedication.

You might be surprised at how many model kits are butchered for some movie miniatures, and how many models used in movies can be bought from a model store. All the effects people did was make it look real good and add more detail.

Hey, most of the details visible were either after-market parts, cannibalized from other kits, or completely scratchbuilt. Stuff like the #1 cargo hatch on the foc's'le, small mushroom vents around the ship, poster board for shell doors on the hull, masking tape for the canvas protective screen around the compass platform, straight pins for the pipes running beneath A deck, etc. The list is long.

One bit of model trivia: the refinery barge the Nostromo was towing in the movie Alien was finished out largely from parts from lots of TIE Advanced model kits.

Update: Assuming everything goes according to plan, and no more cats try to jump onto my desk, the Titanic should be finished some time this Saturday. I'll post photos next week!
