These are shots of a mp map that I've been working on this past 2 weeks:

Many of the new textures are provided courtesy of Bombshellrapture, who is letting me use resources from his Liberating Cloud City level.

The map is ideal for 4-6 players. I've included all weapons except the concussion rifle (it makes the game to oeasy if everyone has a conc) and the carbonite gun. (This weapon is a really chickens*** way of getting a one-hit frag in multiplayer) .

There are two floor levels arranged in a circular pattern, so as you run through the map on either floor you are running in a huge circle. I've also included a nice sniping location for all you DC snipers out there! :D

I took considerable time on the lighting,b/c I wanted this map to be different than all of the other CC maps out there.

I did not include a carbon-freeze chamber in this map because carbon chamber maps have been done to death. (Besides, I doubt that I could beat Carbo_SE )

Comments/questions welcome.

It looks cool, but please don't make it twilight. I mean really...I've only seen one Bespin ever that's in full daylight.

I'm with Thrawn... mid-day would be best. Besides, then you could create it for JK too without the colored lighting.

It looks good but I'm annoyed by the frequent cuts or misalignments in the floor tiles. Perhaps it would be better to keep that texture for plain square rooms and to use a more basic plain floor for the rest. It would be easier on the eyes.

Originally, the lighting was midday-- except you could only see glaring white as far as the eye could see. Now THAT was hard on the eyes, and at great expense to atmosphere and detail. If you want a Cloud City level set at midday, go play LCC. Besides, the indoor areas are brightly lit, and only the outdoor areas have the twilight-ish lighting.

I'm also thinking of porting it to JK after I release it for Mots. The lighting will be preserved, it just won't be coloured.

Flexor: what would you recommend instead of floor tiles?

well I'm not familiar with the texture set you're using, but I meant something plain in the style of 00_base1.mat and such.. only more plastic and reflective-looking, possibly beige or a similar color.

lol, that's funny because I just got done playing Liberating Cloud City. Kudos for making a MotS MP map though, I've been wanting to play that for a while--this will give me a reason to! I like the colored lighting.

BTW, I have replaced the X-wing with a cloud car from GOZ, and it looks much nicer now.

I can't really do anything about the sky at this point. I've cleaved up the sector so much that adding a proper skybox (with proper stitching) would be all but impossible. I'll just make a false backdrop by using a large 3do ,and hopefully I could fake the skybox effect.

I've pondered for quite some time as to why people insist on saying that JK/MotS maps look like JO/JKA (when they so obviously don't). I've come to the conclusion, after much aggravation, that they're simply trying to be nice (or either they haven't played each of those games for more than 5 seconds). I say, if it looks good, say so, but don't pretend that you though it was a graphically superior game.

Actually, I think it's because no one has seen any shots that take full advantage of the Q3 engine. Sure, there have been some good ones...but they've been few and far between. It's really not that difficult take full advantage of an older engine and make it look as good or better then a crapy, slaped-together level in a superior engine.

Holy ****, when you said that, it made me realize that 5 years ago when I had MotS installed and my cpu crapped out, I never completely finished the game. I knew about the secret level, but never got the chance to play it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

Guess I better go reinstall, so I can play this level with ReAcToR and beast it up with Skywalker.

he is right. It was just an extra level that LEC created, but never felt it added any purpose in the time line of the story, so it was just left in the gob file. Look around massassi for the Secret level special addition, it has some fixed bugs.

It's in a zip file called "UNSUPPORTED.ZIP" somewhere on the MotS cd. You'll need an episode.jk file for it (there's one at http://www.lucasarts.com/ somewhere...) and then you'll need to turn it into a GOO file (you can just extract it to mots\episode\somedirectory, but when I did that MotS started glitching out on me.

Welcome to JK. With such dated graphics, there's not much in JK that doesn't look cartoonish compared to everything else that is out.

It's very possible to use JK to create realistic-looking levels. The textures Pagewizard used are the main reason this looks cartoony. The lack of small architectural details makes up the rest.

I disagree. All of the textures (minus the ones on the statue 3do), look pretty true to the movie. I think it's mostly the lighting and the sky that's making it look cartoony in most places (and the statue 3do). The architecture is pretty good, in most areas. Cloud City wasn't very architectually inclined, as it were.

There's only two playces, architectually, that bothers me. First, in shot two. The tower in the background could be over higher detail. And Secondly, in shot 7, the ramp appears far too steep.

If it wasn't for the statue 3do in the last shot, I'd recommend SotD!

What? Where?! Point one out.

Could a couple of the wall textures use a little more work? Sure. Though it's difficult to do smooth shiny surfaces without shaders...

Dodge and burn can be used to create very simple (and quite convincing) shiny surfaces. The bottom line is that flat, monotone textures aren't horribly effective at accomplishing anything.
