One day I desided to draw

And this is what I drew. These are the FIRST people characters I've ever drawn (that weren't sticks) I went and found an anime tutorial for help and thus these creatures were spawned. How can I make them better/improve my style.

Torso too wide, arms too thin, shoulders too flat. Good start though.

Drawing is all practice. Yeah yeah, there's those natural artistic prodigys, but everyone else does it the same way.

Practice practice practice

OH and don't learn with manga/anime styles. Most people (and I do mean most) I've seen who started on that style never move on. Don't stifle your creativity by sticking to any one style, explore until you find your own.

Don't draw in 2 dimensions. Draw in 3.

You start in two and then move on to three, Bob.

Like Compos said, practice is what makes you better

Mrr, no, I think it's best to draw crappy 3 dimensional figures than any quality 2 dimensional figures. But I'm no artist. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

well, obviously, if you can't draw in 2d, than you're gonna have more trouble drawing in 3d. it's much harder to not know how to draw, and then learn how to draw in 3d, than to learn 2d, then move on to 3d... AND STUFF.

http://www.fineart.sk/ <-- alot of good books to read (legite scans of public domain books on figure drawing). There is nudity (because of it's nature), but just let whoever know that you're trying to teach yourself how to draw the human form.

As for 2d vs 3d, I'd say learn on 2d. All pictures start as 2d anways, so why work and learn backwards?

@ Bob: I don't know anyone besides you who would rather look at bad art than good. But like you said, you're no artist, so I disregarded anything you said anyways (if you're offended, don't tell me to do that with your silly little disclaimer... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif] )

There is no inherent difference between "drawing in 2D" and "drawing in 3D". Every aspect of art (line, shape, texture, contour, shade, shadow, perspective, foreshortening, composition, space, color), contributes to the three-dimensional nature of the subject. It is possible for everything you draw on a piece of paper, from a line to what Axis has drawn here, to be a fully 3D figure..

The difference is the perception of an object in 3d. Yeah, it's easy to change his drawings into 3d, but not if you aren't used to translating your thoughts into 3 dimensions on paper yet (takes practice)

You have to learn about shadows and perpsective and other techniques that fool the eye into thinking it's seeing a 3d drawing on a piece of paper.

Largest problems is you need to get the arms to the right proportion, (the arms don't up THAT high into the shoulder.) and work on the hands. Hands can be very difficult.

Also, don't try to draw to a certain style just yet. Just try real life drawings or something until you get the jist of it, THEN move on. If you try comparing to something like MegaTokyo all the time, you'll turn into Piro (the artist of MT) and beat yourself up all the time, saying your art sucks, because it doesn't compare. You just have to give it time and lots of practice. I draw all the time now. I am no artist, but I am getting better. I flip through my doodles, and I see them getting much better. I can actually draw hands now for example. (Feet still destroy me though. I just can't get them the right size or right angle. They either look like they are standing on their toes, or their ankle is broken, or they have baby feet. Grrrr)

Before you do any of that, go and read "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. Then go and learn anatomy. Then go and learn anime. Anime is one of the worst ways to start. Draw from life.
