EDIT: Better Quality Scans, and one

Well they are...Timothy Zahn didn't describe them very well to begin with. Oh well.

I had another picture, but it got screwed up when I took a photo of it (the pencil lead got all shiny) so I'm going to Xerox it and take another picture. EDIT: And here it is.

Anyway, the Zhirrzh are characters in the "Conquerors" trilogy by Timothy Zahn. I'm going to try and model this guy sometime in the near future. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.' 'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice. 'You must be,' said the Cat, 'or you wouldn't have come here.'

I did. Someone should make an Icarus Hunt mod for Freelancer. Or maybe even a Conquerors mod. That would be yummy. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

That first picture looks great, and the second is good from the legs up. The tail looks weird.

What I really want to see is a Ssi-Ruuvi, the creatures from 'The Truce at Bakura'.

His right leg and tail look broken, and his body in the first pic looks 2d. Shade it, or 3/4 it like the head.

He has double-bent legs, to balance with the tail. The tail is an atmospheric sampler, and spins in a corkscrew pattern.

Acharjay, there's another picture in the Essential Chronology that I think looks better, but I don't have the time to find it right now. I'd never seen Avenger's before, but it looks interesting. Happy hunting!

Oh, and if you're drawing what Avenger posted, those are Ssi-Ruik (or something), they were in The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers. Zahn didn't write that.

Scetched up my own in a few minutes Sorry for the messy lineart, I only had a ballpoint pen. I included a handy "How to draw a Lizard Thing or Whatever" tutorial.

Head shape is a little off, eyes need more pupils, but that's really cool. I like the feet--I had way too much trouble trying to get them to look right.

No offence, but the head kind of looks like a turtle head mixed with a eagle. But it still looks cool!

Okay, I decided to re-do the model, because the old one sucked. The new version is based on the profile drawing I did.

Before you go much further, keep in mind: eyeballs are round. They have to fit inside the skull.

Shrink the eyesockets? I'm redrawing that head, so it looks more lizardine (unless the species in meant to look turtle/birdlike).

It's pretty much open to interpretation--I can give you the initial description from the book (plus some stuff from other parts), if that helps.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally Posted by Timothy Zahn:
They were roughly human in height, with slender torsos and a pair each of arms and legs in more or less human arrangement. Their heads were hairless, the faces roughly triangular in shape as large brow ridges over the deep-set eyes narrowed to hawklike beaks.

Their heads, Pheylan saw now, extended farther back than he'd realized, curving back and under to the neck and to a low spinal ridge that jutted out from their jumpsuits. The ridge terminated just above the legs in a flat, eellike tail that seemed to twirl continually in a tight corkscrewing spiral.

Pheylan found himself looking into the aliens wide eyes, noticing for the first time that each had what looked like three seperate pupils. The two on either end were vertical, catlike slits, while the center pupil of each eye was noticably wider. It struck him as an odd and rather redundant arrangement. Though so did the aliens' hands, for that matter, comprised of three fingers plus two oppositely placed thumbs.

They walked slightly bent forward, their feet appearing to have something of the splayfooted design of seagull feet except without any webbing between the toes.

That's about all I can get without becoming redundant. Hope that helps. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
