[edit]removed image tags for older pictures, so loading time will be decreased.

I like to draw (pen and paper), and do so often, I don't believe I've ever showcased something here, though. I never had any lessons or anything, so I don't know all the tricks, but I progressed a lot in the last few years, on my own. IMHO.

Now with drawing on my pc, that's a different story. I tried a couple times, but it always ended up like utter rubbish. I just don't have the control over a mouse like I have over a pencil. (Ofcourse that could be solved with such a USB pencil thingy, but meh. I just like the effects you can do with carbon, it's easy to shade things and make sharp lines with the same tool (the pencil))

Now I thought, maybe I could enhance my drawings on my pc. With a pencil I can only do greyshades. What If I colour the thing in Paint Shop Pro.

So I got working on it. I don't have much PSP experience (nor any other painting program for that matter.) but I kind of like how it turned out, certainly for a first try!

I didn't compressed it much, because JPG already screwed up all the layers, and compression made it even worse. So you'll have to chew the large filesize.

Now here's the origional drawing:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~ceekelen/drawing/coenotext.jpg

It's a drawing I made nearly a year ago, it's not as good as my recent ones. I now use more variations in tone (for the shades) and make my drawings usually darker. (oh, and it's inspired by Final Fantasy, a little bit.)

This is my end result:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~ceekelen/drawing/coecolour.jpg

Some notes:

-Yes the background is just a standard PSP texture, it's just a placeholder [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
-The eyes were intended that way, she's the Goddess of Darkness after all
-Didn't have time yet to smooth out the silhoutte, it's still jaggy. But I'll remove that in time.

I'd like your opinions on it.

I like the original drawing far more than the colored.

Suggestions:
• Get rid of the bright colors if you want this to be a Goddess of Darkness.
• Make her skin tone darker.
• Give her a misty-looking black aura.

Well I had already had the bright colours in mind when I hadn't even thought of colouring yet. The idea is, that balance must been maintained. And since she's so dark from the 'inside' (morals, way of thinking etc.) her bright apperal balances that out. Plus this way it'll fit better in the book I'm 'using' this character in.
I was already thinking about changing the flag though, the white contrasts too much with the black symbol.

The black aura is an excellent idea! I'll defenitely implement that! I don't know exactly how I'm going to make it yet, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

I'm also looking for a fitting background, I might use a screenshot of my JO level for it (modified to fit the scene ofcourse.)

I also just noticed (after a friend pointed it out) that the shadow at the left armpit is too intense, I'll have to fix that too.

I'll post some updates as soon as I have had time to work on it again.

awesome drawing man...my only complaint is I never pictured the goddess of darkness to be in an eggshell blue "pretty pretty princess" dress...but to each his own. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Hmm, I might also make the yellow parts on her dress black, because I think it stands out too much and black would indeed fit better.

My only complaint as far as the actual drawing goes is that the transition from *cough* uhh... chest to stomache doesn't look quite right to me... Too wide or something, perhaps..

wee update! Looks cool.. Did you do anything with her armpit? Still looks dark. The flag looks a lot better, and the black aura thing is cool, though it seems to clash with her hair a bit. Not sure what to do there, but you might want to fiddle with that a bit. Also, you might want to apply some sort of edge-preserving blur or something to her, because she looks sort of... speckled, which wouldn't be a problem if the background looked that way, but since the background is smooth, it makes something seem out of place.

The hair does indeed clash with the aura thingy, but I didn't really knew what to do against it, without losing the detail of the hair. (ie fading it into each other) Any suggestions are appreciated.

About the armpit still being dark, what would you suggest: a) make it lighter, or b) make all the shadows darker. I tend to go for option b...

I want to keep the speckledness, since it's part of my 'style' and I like it. This will obviously lead to the fact that I have to change backgrounds again. And most likely have to draw it myself with a pencil to get the same effect. Now drawing non-humanoid creatures isn't exactly my forté, but it's worth a try since it will add a lot I think.
I'm thinking about some temple-like background.

I also want to make the eyes a tad brighter again to what the were in the first colourpicture. It's overdone now, I think

This is what I'm planning to use as a background, it's a very simple sketch into which I didn't put too much effort, but it's only for a background (and I don't really enjoy drawing buildings). I believe I got the perspective right, eventhough it would have probably been wiser to use a ruler, since my freehand straight line drawing ability is very poor as you might see [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Going to colour this and implement it later.

Looks really good... She still seems a touch overly-speckly around the edges... You might consider smoothing that just a tad... Other than that, great work...

I'd personally suggest changing dress color to white or something (Would make even more sense with your idea of balance) The anatomy looks a bit off in areas. The elbow in particular... That, might be possible, I'll emphasize the might, but it'd be rather difficult, uncomfortable, and irregular. The shadows on her left arm seem too dark. And the torso looks a bit off for a woman, unless she's wearing a corset or something. It's generally a curve instead of a straight line. Looks pretty good overall, though.

Hehe [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] , that was to make sure I wouldn't have people moaning about topic loading time [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

That the anatomy might be a bit off, is because I drew her without any example or anything.
