Heh, I'm still waiting for someone to offer to turn this into a flyable craft for XWA. :ninja:

Anyways, awesome model. If I wasn't so jealous I'd say that I love you.

Ok, I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to get around the 1024 md3 vertex limit in JO? I really don't want to reduce the details in the model. Does anyone know if it is possible to use glm models as map objects? Does glm models have such a vertex limit.

Right now the model has something like 2200 verticies.
2004-01-05, 6:43 PM #45
I'm not too sure, but i have heard you can split the model into peices, or something like that. Maybe ask duncan in one of his lucas forums threads about it. He seems to know a whole lot about getting models into JA.[edit]err... *puts on glasses* oh... or JO. I suggest making it a vehicle in JA, though, if you weren't already planning on it. It's vehicle system is a lot better[/edit]

Zy, make sure you don't have more than 1024 vertices per mesh. JA needs GLMs for actual vehicles, as it usually needs tags and bones and that kind of good stuff.

For a pure map model, use ASE if possible, it's the best format. 3DS, MS3D, LWO and many others are also supported, check Radiant's drop down list for file types in misc_models.

ASE models can also be self-clipping, on a side note... but I'm not entirely sure what goes into that (if anything) on the modeler's side.

Actually, don't smack FastGamerr... At only 2200 verts, that could go into JK. It'd take a bit of work for someone to convert, but I'm quite certain it could make it. And would be rather cool if someone did that.

Gonk, you can also make md3's self-clipping by entering spawnflags 2 in the entity window, so that isn't the problem, really.

So if I divide up the model into a bunch of little subgroups (but all in the same md3 file) it should work? Or did you mean I have to divide up the model into multiple smaller md3s, ASEs, etc.

As for the JA version...I don't have JA, so I'll have to pass it along to someone who has JA to port it over to a flyable vehicle.

Any last suggestions before I release this thing?

Also I have a request: Is anyone working on a great looking level that I can put this starfighter in it to get a great screenshot?

Looks great!

Just so you know, ASE and the other formats don't have vertex or size limits like MD3s.

Oh yeah, Zy, just for future reference...You can scale models in Radiant by adding the "modelscale" key with the scale value. It's really helpful when trying to get scale just right. You can also scale on any axis with "modelscaleX/Y/Z" I think.

I still think it needs to be messed with a bit. anakin's fighter's body isn't shaped exactly the same as a regular JSF, so I still think it needs to be worked on. but that's just me.

I've actually tried to use an ASE version of the fighter before I separated out the mesh into more subgroups. The map compiled and loaded fine, but as soon as I turned and looked at the fighter the level crashed out to the JO title screen and gave an error saying something about more than 1000 verticies. But reguardless it works now.

As soon as I touch up a few spots here and there, I'll send Massassi a special JSF model pack. I'm planning to have Anakin's JSF, Standard Red JSF, and a Blue/Greenish skinned JSF that was never released before.

This is with modelscale at about 1.5. I'll throw it in the level somewhere, just because its FRICKIN' GORGEOUS, but probably not there as that spot is quite big and the falcon fits it better.

I don't want to be offensive but wouldn't it be hard to find a shiny ship in the middle of Tattoine. (sp?)

Yeah it would. You're correct. But as I said I'm not putting it THERE... it'll be somewhere in the level, just because... but the falcon is going there.

Edit: As for the release date... when its done. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] I'm waiting on a few things before progressing, and I'm still kind of out of it from the anesthetic this morning. (I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled.)

Can you make a JK 3do now of that model? would be awsome.. and ah i sort of could use one i belive.. there is allready a normal JSF made by bobo but if we had the anakin the collection would be complete i just think you would have to do alot of changes on it in order to get it work for JK... anyway its all up to you if you want or not

I'd be happy to downscale the surfaces, perhaps I can delete some unused surfaces, etc. If you have any lower polly versions, or perhaps I might make an overlayed model on my own and then apply the textures to it? Something like that.

Well, after playing with it more it seems to be more than acceptable. Obviously its pretty. I had no problems slapping it into the map, and it doesn't eat a lot of polys in game, and I haven't to noticed any texture/lighting problems, so I'd say that right now it's a go for release at your leisure, Zy. It's a really fantastic model...
