Oh and the answer to your post, is if your an educational organization you can apply for free Photoshop. Or if your an indivdual you can by the Educational Full Version.

Not entirely true, but it is for the most part. If you were to place, say, a poster in a level, it would not have to tile. But this is getting nitpicky and technical.

If you desperately need a Photoshop (which I'm doubting seeing as how what you did looks EXACTLY like filters) Go download the trial version of Elements. I've had to use it a number of times, mainly at school, and while not exactly Photoshop, it works for my uses. The only problem is the Trial limit. I'm not sure on the legality of it, but I think there are ways around it. Of course, there are other sources for getting such programs... I am just not allowed to mention them.

I love carpet posters, oh and those sexy new 'caution' paintings, wow they're great for a bachelor pad.

The question remains, how in the world are you producing filters with MSPaint. I promis you, the textures you've provided are Photoshoped, or Gimped, in the least.

You can do very limited filters in Irfanview. I used paint extensively a while back to make something, and unless you have a different version than I do there is really no practical way to do shading.

If you want photoshop that bad, make the following arrangement with someone that owns a copy:

1. buy it for $1, install it, and then sell it back for $1. It's legal, since you technically paid for it. THe cool part is that while you have it and "bought" it, you can legally burn a backup Cd and keep it when you sell back the original.

The only other option for you would be warez, but my first idea makes it so you won't have to break any laws, which is a plus.

The license says you must either destroy or give all backup copies of the program to the person buying the product. Also, it states that you must uninstall the software from your system when you sell the product. So that would be illegal, and violate the EULA.

I've always felt Photoshop overrated. There's plenty of cheap, powerful alternatives you can find. I personally prefer Picture Publisher (10 Professional is quite powerful and has basically all of Photoshop's features, if not more, but hard to find). There's others though... GIMP, Paint Shop Pro. Or you could always try to find a cheap copy on eBay or something. And yeah, it's never legal to keep a copy of software, DVD's, CD's or anything else, in any way, if you sell them.

You know me better than to believe I was refering to what he made. Those were examples of times where you don't need a texture to tile. I never said ANYWHERE or even HINTED at using those as posters.

I was just crushing Casper's dream of these textures ever having any value, although they are good practice with a warezed photo- I mean MSPaint.

Elements is list price $85... more than it's really worth. Can find cheaper alternatives, that have as much power in general.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about the Brits with that remark, but I'll refrain from passing any comment I was going to make... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Pagewizard_YKS: You and I both know there is absolutely NO way that that is a legitimate solution to the issue at hand! I totally agree with Molgrew's point on this matter [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

But post related [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] - I'm no texture god (I can't draw for toffee and don't leave me alone with crayons to colour textures with - Joseph's multi-coloured "scrawl" coming up) but even I know that whilst that is possible to do detailed textures, you just can't do them with that much level of detail in MSPaint. Period. Unless, like Freyr says, "you have a patience greater than anyone I know"... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Well, Theres nothing with all the features that Photoshop has in one piece of software your not going to find curves or leveling or histogram corrections in any other softwares. But if you just making textures you could do just fine with a watered down copy of elements. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

What im not understanding, is why everyone is getting defensive toward a texture that doesn't tile, or accusing him of ripping photoshop.........
2004-01-17, 8:04 AM #35
Because it is apparent that he did get PS illegally, because every time he does something illegal, he stresses the fact that he didn't do it. It's really obvious if you look at his posts in this and his other showcase threads. Today it's photoshop, two weeks ago it was using textures without giving credit. When people do things like this, they get a certain reputation and not everyone is too kind to them. I should know.
