Check out the cam-guided rocket I made with a translucent 3do crosshair that is part of the rocket. This is for the new Nightfire mod for JK. I will also add a red tint to finish off the effect of imitating the Sentinel's rocket cam.

Because maybe he likes Nightfire. I like Nightfire too, I found it to be an enjoyable game (my roommate has a PS2, we've had some fun MP matches).

Yeah, the image isn't showing up, methinks the IC is borken.

It was showing up last night. The IC links were broken a few days ago, too. It's probably just having trouble at the moment (duh to me!).

I've added the tint, and now all I have to do is the static that shows after extended flight. I'll wait till the IC comes up to post any more pics, though.
I have had a problem when you fire at point-blank at something and it crashes JK. Hopefully I can get this fixed. If all else fails, I'll give a bug warning in the readme.

you should implement a "secret code" that will allow you to continuously fly around if you so choose. If that's possible. I'm by no means a JK editor anymore, and I never really got into cogging. But I like the idea of being able to fly around indeffinitely

That would be nice, Yecti, but I'm not in charge of the project. Maybe the team will approve though. I'll have to also see if I can get the rocket to not get removed from the game. Unless I can do that, it's not gonna have a chance at happening. Maybe removing it's timer in the template will do the trick...

I'd personally like a "secret code" that gives you unlimited ammo (you still have to reload but your ammo bin doesn't decrement). I'm going to put in the code for infinite ammo in my new mod (when I next get to work on it; I'm taking a break from it at the moment).

The IC's back up, so, as promised, here's an image with the red tint. Is the tint too strong? It's definitely not too weak, though.

You're firing it from a corner of the biggest sector in Canyon Oasis. Does this perhaps mean that it takes wide turns? I hope it's easily steerable like the ^ UT redeemer.

Increase the red tint. And I'd imagine it's pretty controllable. He may be in a big sector, but he's facing a wall.

What you said makes no sense whatsoever. Anyone get a translation on that?

As for my commment about facing a wall, it was referring to the previous comment about him firing in largest sector and that it'd be wide turns... If the turns were wide at all in that last shot, he'd probably have hit a wall.

Unfortunately, the fact that I'm facing a wall makes no difference. The direction the rocket travels is based on the way the player is looking. Thus, every time I pass myself, I'll be facing backward.

And yes, the rocket can do tight turns (with the mouse), but I fired it toward the center of the level from that point. But it can be hard to control because it's moving at 40 m/s (4 jku/s), which looks to me like a decent rate for the rocket ingame.

I should have the static working shortly. I had a problem with it and I realized the solution last night. Hopefully it'll work...

Oh, btw, I'm not sure if I should increase the tint because, (1) It gets kinda hard to see, (2) It almost looks like you're getting hurt when you're not, and (3) I'm not sure if the sentinel cam's red tint is that strong in Nightfire. I'll increase it for you, though. Helps to decide when you can see both of the tones I guess [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

Oh, in case I wasn't clear enough in the above post, the player can still turn. He just can't move around.

You may try suspending a 3DO in front of the rocket's camera, it would allow you to make a much more higher resolution display as well as easily create your static. You could recreate those lines you have in the 3DO, being generous on polygons. And for static just a translucent surface with an animated MAT on it.

I was thinking of something like that. The hardest part is that the static will build up as the rocket's timer runs out. I tried firing static 3dos in front of the rocket, but it didn't appear until I fired the second time, and then it was appearing the whole time.
I will try what you said and see what happens.

To be honest with you, I don't like the red tinting. Perhaps try green tint, like the Slayer from Perfect Dark. But if the red tint was a part of the missile from 007: Nightfire, then never mind.

Not really. You could just use multiple 3DOs that delete one after another, each with it's own gradual effect.

Okay, I finally got it working. I was using the wrong verb to stop the animation (MaterialAnim instead of StopAnim). Here are the current 3 stages of static.

I plan to shrink down the size of the staticy dots so it looks better. I think I'll add a 4th, more opaque, stage. And maybe some more inbetween stages.

In any case, I think it's essentially done. Now all that can be done to it are touch-ups.
