well here are the fruits of my efforts to make two different types of swords. I havent been able to find a good metal texture for either, although i like the second blade better than the first.

{edit}- Forget the links, just scroll down

P.S.
How do i just put an image up with UBB code instead of having to put just the link?

what i said about not having textured either of them completely still stands. It should be working now, and ignore the watermark, its cause i dont have the full version (because its 7000 dollars)

What is the program you're using to make them?

Also, I think your web host may not like you linking to images... Too many do that...

A little plain, especially for the handles, but I completely respect the fact that this is your first tries at em.

Also, it may not matter much, but the Maya complete version only costs $2000. (Yea I know, that's still a buttload, but hey, it's $6000 less than Unlimited.)
And if you are really interested in getting into it, I would look into getting a student copy. Lots of colleges can get you expensive programs like these for you MUCH cheaper (We're talking an easy 75% off)

Not bad. If you want to be able to distribute your models (legally, that is, lol) get Wings 3D, it's 100% free, open source, all that good stuff. Not to mention it's for Windows, Linux, AND Mac. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Oh, and it's quite good, I was able to make a fairly good model with it. :O ME. AND I SUCK AT THAT KIND OF THING.

The handguards are so wide as to be an obstacle - I'd say make them 2/3 as wide as they are now. Maybe 1/2.

Other than that it looks fine, nice and clean.

Ah! Good to see you found a way to sucessfully link them...

The first sword looks rather nice, despite being a little on the short side... Then again, size matters not! (either stretch the blade, or use it with hobbits) The guard is simple yet elegant

The second sword could use a little alteration. The guard is altogother too wide; they're mean primarily to prevent one's opponent from using a swordlock to lop off one's hand, not to protect one's hand (that's left up to swords like rapiers, where the guard connects with the bottom of the handle as well). I would also angle the guard slightly forward, and shorten the handle, as that looks like it would fit two hands (unless that's meant to be a hand-and-a-half sword). Otherwise, the model looks rather good, aside from the watermark. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] (there are tons of commercial modelling programs that are FAR cheaper than MAYA)

[edit: the official name of the sword I mentioned was filtered, so I changed it]

The blade of the 2nd sword needs to be much longer if you use that hilt. Otherwise, make the hilt smaller. Don't forget that most longswords are made with 1+ grooves in the blade to add strength and reduce mass.

I agree with that increased blade : handle ratio, and thatgroove(s) are neccessary... Although part of their purpose was to reduce resistance when using them as a stabbing wepaon, thus th occasional name "bloodgutter".

first of all, thanks for the comments, second, its called a "blood grove" and the whole point of it was that, since the inside of the human body is practically a vacuum, there needs to be a channel to let air in so that you can actually pull the sword out of the body [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] and the first sword was meant to be a shortsword of sorts.
