Hold the Line!
2004-02-07, 1:42 PM #1
Here are some screenshots from my next MotS episode, Hold the Line, set once more in the AtG80 universe that made its debut in the Massassi community with Life of Grismath.

You play as Cyborg Commando, a mercenary impressed into the defense of a Laituurian colony on Takkar-6, a world long ago settled by space orcs who have now been united under Draktir, a disgruntled orcish Shaman out of work due to the the non-continuation of the RoX TC.

This is the central facility of the ill-fated Laituurian colony.

Here is a battle formation of space orcs (oft referred to by the colonists as 'sporcs') marching towards my terrible cannon.

My posse of Laituurian triangle men slyly waited in their trenches for an oncoming contingent of space orcs. Just when they thought that they were safe, however, the odious trumpet blared, and more reinforcements joined the battlefield!

Ultimately overrun, the trench seems to have fallen to the nefarious space orcs. But thanks to Cyborg Commando, they won't be holding it for very long...

I'm working on replacing the default weapons and I already have implemented a squad management system and the ability to call in artillery strikes. I hope to release this by the end of the month.

Could you post a closer shot? Those look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to me.

A contingent of mace-wielding orcs. This is straight from Milhouse's design for RoX.

Three space orcish troopers. Yes they look goofy, but the original orc model uses a completely different puppet. That's right, they're carrying AK-47's. The Soviet Union really did mass produce those things, and with modified plasma shells loaded into the original clips, they can compete with many modern space weapons. I might eventually have orcs with bolt action energy rifles and perhaps some with bows. I also will mix the melee weapons and armor that some of the orcs carry for added diversity.

Can you say "Armed and Dangerous"? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Looks quite nifty, though.

Why does this remind me of "Beachhead"? [sudders]

I originally drew all my inspiration for this project from Armed and Dangerous yes, but I also have had a longtime dream of making epic battles on an RTS-esque scale for MotS long before AND was announced. I have since incorporated designs from a few other FPS war games, and of course added the element of my own originality. ;]

While I've never actually played "Beachhead" myself, I can assure you that this will not come anywhere that pinnacle of gaming excellence.

The advantage is is that you can 'borrow' movies for long amounts of time without him remembering that you borrowed them.

The disadvantage is the pizza cheese grime on the DVDs

loved the beta i got, hehe i'm special
anyways, i just had way too much lag, even though the terrain was light, the orc models caused it, i'd say higher end machines for this even though it is MotS [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] great fun non-the-less

I was gonna write more, but my stupid browser deleted it all.

Anyway, very, very nice! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I enjoyed playing LoG, and this looks to be no exception. Anyway, you should (if you haven't already) look at the Death From Above level. That might give you some more great ideas (not to say you don't have plenty as of current). You should call those space orc troopers "Storm Sporcs" for obvious reasons!

Oh, I don't know if this was your intent or if it's only temporary, but those Laituurian colonists' faces' look a tad bland. Need eyes or a mouth or just a hole even, or something along those lines.

Anyway, astounding! Keep up the superior effort! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

This looks interesting... I'd still reccomend higher texture detail, though... But it looks great. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for it...
