Give up unless you're going to take to doing it pixel by pixel, or get a decent editor. I only say this after your repeated attempts, all producing similar material.

Uuuummm... that doesn't look that great but I use default textures all the time anyways so I wouldn't really know. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] Perhaps if it was used in a dark area to hide it's not-so-great-ness?

I actually think it looks pretty descent. What exactly is the texture intended for?

I just have three suggestions:
1) Before anything else, resize it to 256x64.
2) Edit out the white. Replace the white with black or dark yellow.
3) On the yellow stripes, blend the "bumps" in a little more. Perhaps a darker (and maybe slightly more orange) shade of yellow would work well.

Looks cool although I agree with the comments about the white spots. Those will really stand out in a dark level. Also of course the resolution.
2004-02-10, 11:26 AM #8
All it is is stripes (poorly)made with te brush tool and a layer is put on top. 5 minutes work max.

Its a good start, but it needs work. Like people mentioned, you gotta fix the white spots and the resolution. Also, it would be better if it could be tiled.

Considering the program used, I think they don't look half bad, I think i may use them in a level if i edited anymore.

Solid colors > bumps

Not all bricks are the same size and shape, and not all walls have pure white cement in between the bricks. Look at a normal brick building... and you'll see what I mean...

Hmmm I think I will mix up the colors a bit more like in that background. So I will mike it up a bit with the spraytool then sofen it then bump it. And grant if you use them just say they where made by good ol' Casper lol. In fact I might convert them to mats for JK editors. And keep them jpg's for JO and JA editors. I will release a texture pack of my work in the mats section when Im finished with all of them.

The brick one tiles a bit better, but it still needs a bit of work... Does the image editor your using have an offset filter so you can check to see if the image tiles?

Also, the bricks need to look dirtier. Try using a darker red, and varying it a bit from brick to brick.

Added colors.

And for DSettahr's question.

I did look neither programs have it. If I use this texture in a map. I will but a wall. And fit it. Then put concrete columns where it doesent repeat.

The variation is a big improvement, but I think you should make it even darker overall.

Nice job on the textures, though. No idea what you eman in that diagram, however. Nooo idea.

LOL "I hear sirens!" Oh crap! The grammar police are on there way! Run!" LOL Well anyway thanks for the good comments and critsim. The diagram shows how to use non looping textures in radient. Right now Im making a few concrete textures. But I will make them into mats. and also have them in jpg format. For Quake 3 engine mappers.

Don't bump, at all.
Your bricks are flourescent... that's bad.
Too.Much.Caulking.
Don't bump.

Make each brick stand-alone, not all the same color, and all the same size. Trim up the edges so they're bumpy, maybe add a few chips, add a shadow from a brick sticking out a little more, simple things like that make it a good texture.

Don't bump.

For goodness-sake people - make the destinction between "grammar" and "spelling" please - it's really beginning to irk me now... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

Anyhow, topic related: to be honest, I like both of the brick textures, admittedly moreso the darkened, dirty-red brick in the second picture, but I think the first brick texture would have its place in some levels [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Without a shadow of the doubt, the bricks are better than the hazard strips, but both show potential [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]. Now I'm no texture artist (really - not one at all!), but keep up the promising work [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I'd say the top one... It looks sufficiently like real asphalt... I reccomend you have a paint-free texture to acompany it, along with a solid-paint.

Keep up the work... And I'll ask if those could be used in JO, or if they'd be stuck with, say, HL...
