My first 3ds Max animation
Careful, it's 7 mb's. If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep the file size down uh.. give me a tip. (I could have rendered it smaller I guess..)

Anyway. This is a late-stage beta. I'm aware that one of the lasers stop while still on screen, but any other suggestions?

There seems to be a shot that doesn't continue, but stops at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise, snifty?

Looks good. I think if you textured the ship with something more than just reflectivity (give it a windshield or something at least) it would help. Other than that, I'd like to see a longer animation.

Geb- I talked about that. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] In more detail, when I previewed the animation, that didn't show up, but when I went through and rendered the whole thing, it was there.

Murc- I was actually trying to do a windshield, but I couldn't figure out how to only add a texture to a select area. :/ If you have any tips, I'd be glad to take them.

And I'll work on the length too. Maybe I'll add a different ship chasing it.

Are you using an actual texture for the ship, or just using Max's built in color/reflective/whatever stuff? A seperate Illustrator/Photoshop/Paint [don't kill me, just making a point!] picture would be a good idea.

...I probably should've put this at the beginning, but is this your first modelling with 3DS Max, too? The model itself looks really simplistic, not that that's neccessarily a bad thing.

I don't really think I'm that much of an expert on Max (not at all, actually), but if you have a question, I'll be more than happy to help you out.

[Edit] Can't believe I forgot: It does look good for a first try. Not sure I'd be able to get something like that to look as good myself.

Nice... Short... Hm... How to make it smaller than 7mb... Try coding it into DivX or XviD...

Its a good start... The ship needs a better flight path, rather than just using the camera movement to make it look like its moving.

Dsettahr- Heh. Actually.. the ship is moving, it's the water that makes it look like that. I added the water texture to a box and rotated/spun it around to make it look as if it was moving. I think I did it way too fast though.

SonOfSatan- Yeah, I did use the built in thing. I'm crap at texturing, I need to find a good tutorial. (Not gonna kill you. It was a good observation.) And it's my first non-tutorial modelling job in 3ds Max, yes.

Edward- Thanks a bunch!

Back to work. *slaves*

After playing with it a bit, I figured out it's not that hard, really. But after a quick look around, I realized that most of the tutorials I've seen waste a lot of time compared to what I do. I'll write up something for you in the morning (1:30 AM right now where I am).

The model itself isn't too bad, but most of the main body of the ship seems way too rounded to me. How many faces is it?

As for the missiles/pods/things, they're a decent start, but might want to add more detail. Not sure if you're gonna make them do anything, but if not, then I'd suggest attatching and welding them to the ship itself.

...oh, and the whole "don't kill me" thing was because I mentioned Paint for texturing. 's a very bad idea, unless you're a god with it.

Like I said before, just ask if you've got a question. I think my email is in my profile... AOL Instant Messenger name is either the same as on here or Anubis1562.

If you did that for me.. *dies* I'd love you for eternity.
