Some of you may have already seen this, either via the link in my sig, or from me posting links in the chat:

http://rallyny.gotdns.org/page.php

How does it look?

Its basically an online database of all the best country/dirt roads and off-roading trails in New York State. You can search for roads by county, and each road has a description page that tells you about the road and gives directions to help you find it. Users can also submit roads through an online form. I've got a few more features planned, but for now the site is pretty much operational.

Simple yet elegant-- it gets the job done rather nicely.

My only gripe is that the top image takes a few seconds to load on broadband, so you imagine how long 56 k users will have to wait. How much compression are you using, anyway?

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

Not alot admitedly... I'm still tweaking the image, and I'm probably going to reduce the size and increase the compression once I've gotten it the way I want. Also, I'm hoping once I get the site to a proper host, there should be more bandwidth available.

Well, for me, the dark background doesn't seem to work with the nice colorful roads fo New York.

Out-post is what I use, and it's great. Provided by a guy named Napolean, he's almost always available online to talk to for assistance with the server, and the list for the services on his site don't do justice to CPanel and some of the other resources he's got plugged into the server.

[edit]I almost forgot:

The site looks fine, because it's simple. What I don't like is the black background, especially for the pretty picture at the top. It's already been adressed, but the top-picture loads slow on cable, so I can imagine what a 56Ker would go through. Otherwise, I'd say that the width of the site is a bit too big for my home computer, so perhaps a smaller top-image and some CSS and you can maximize performance for all screen-sizes?[/edit]

Looks nice. I looked through the code and i didnt see any meta-tags though. Are you planning for search engines to find it?

Oh and also I would like to become part of the staff. I have learned quite a bit of web page design and I am currently in the process of making my own. I could help you run it if you want.

Do you live in new york state? I'm looking mainly for people that can add to the database, and get out and take pictures in their local area, etc.

Also, I was waiting until I got more permanent hosting and maybe a domain name before I submitted it to search engines.
