Hey guys, I've been working on a Black gates of Mordor map for Medieval: Total War.

I've taken ten very cinematic screenshots of it that I think you will really enjoy. I'm running the Middle Earth: Total War mod beta for the game as well which is why the orcs in the pics look like Uruk Hai from Isengard (In the middle earth:Total war mod, only Rohan and Isengard have been released so far)

If you're going by the book, then have the host of men standing on two adjacent mounds.

I'm not familiar with editing for Total War, but it'd really help if you could actually make the gates black and add orangey-red fog.

well, the problem is that you can't edit the actual arctitecture in MTW like castle parts without some considerable tinkering, which I have no clue how to do. This map is, believe it or not, my very first attempt at mapmaking ever, in any game.

um, just to throw this out there, Sauron had created Uruks before Sauruman.

About the gates: they arent exactly gates. I suggest making them much wider. Also make them look like they are made of a form of black iron. Also if your going with the gates from the movies, make them a little more "sinister"; right now the textures and architecture look more like Minas Tirith than from Mordor.

I know you said it might be difficult, but changing the textures from the white happy castle to the dark sinister gates of mordor would give the whole map a 99% better feel.

Dude, apparently, you are not familiar with Medieval: Total War editing. Believe me, if I could have done what you have suggested, I would have. However, I (being ignorant in the area map making or mods of any kind) only used the basic in game map editor, which only allows for one to use existing arcitecture in the game for your editing purposes. So I did what I could with the materials I had, so to speak. I used two sections of castle wall to represent the "Gates" of Mordor. I understand that the gates look too "Gondorian", however, I currrently do not know how to change it to black, and I certainly do not know how to design custom arcitecture in the game.

One thing is for sure, despite it's faults, you currently won't find a better looking Mordor map for M:TW just yet. And taking those screenshots was lots of fun. Getting the orcs in the exact formations and positions to look cool in the angles of the pics I wanted to take was interesting.

In the pics, there are aproximately 7,500 orcs on screen(when you see them all), with the smaller army of Rohan (even though you can only see the first few ranks of them) numbering at just under 900.

The Game engine itself can handle (depending on how powerful your computer is) up to a maximum of 25,600 troops on screen in real-time.
