I have been doing work!
2004-03-24, 5:37 PM #1
The past few months on-and-off work on my Original Series Star Trek project. I added the black bars at the top and bottom of the images to give it a cinematic feel...just for show

First, the bridge (again), with the new character skins(yeah, the faces are temporary...haven't had time to make more)

The corridors of the U.S.S. Yorktown

The transporter room (Just finished tonight)

The sickbay complex, featuring the wardroom, examination room, medical lab, and the doctor's office (you can see the office through the screen on the last shot)

The stunning swankiness of the ship is offset and diminished by the terrible crapiness of the default JK player models. Please, for the love of kak, get new models.

Well, if i had someone make me new character models, that would be great. But I lack both the time and programs to build them. I may be able to pull it off in jed, but i seriously doubt it.

This is simply amazing. 5 stars.
I had applied for your model-making for this mod... I'm still awaiting an e-mail...

Ask Rutherven if you can use his models and I think he'd be perfectly willing...

Some of the door frames have a cross-light that goes from the door side out into the room [\]. Perhaps by merging the surfaces, and making a cleave from the room to the door [/] and it'll look better.

The textures are rather accurate. Actually probably a step up from the original... One must realize... these were cheap cardboard sets generally. Besides which, not all things in life are heavily detailed objects, quite the opposite, more often than not. Things tend to be a single bland color, with little texture in detail. There tends to be just simple white, grey, or whatever walls, once in a while, a pattern. And if not that, white bricks are fairly common. And in Star Trek, things tend to be particularly simple. Still shows on Sci-Fi if you want something to compare these to, lol. Oh, and I'll definitely second the new player models. It was the first thing that came to my mind when seeing that first image. If nothing else, I could try my hand at making a new one for you... (Actually, I've been working on an improved model anyways, trying to get it to be able to take normal JK skins without modification, but still look good and right, lol)

ya, but they still leave something to be desired. even cardboard has a highly detailed texture if you think about it. Actually i dont think its so much the material as the way the colors and lights (as well as shadows) affect it.

Yeah, the textures probably could be better, but I'm making them ALL. So far, for the small bit I have done of the proposed level, I have made over 450 textures. And that's only a small portion of the workload thus far. Because some of the textures are animated, I have made a total of 617 new bitmaps, 90% are from scratch. So please, forgive me if my textures aren't THAT detailed.

And, as said earlier, the original Star Trek series had simple sets with simple walls. I'm shooting to immerse the player into that classic feeling because it's the series I like the most.

Brilliant work! While the models aren't that great, the skins are actually quite good. Like jEDIkIRBY said, ask Ruthervain for his player models. Then, after using something like forcereemap to texture them, nothing can stop you! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

......Words cannot suffice to describe my elation (but I'll try anyway).

This is freakin' AWESOME! I NEVER thought JK could look so good! All we'll need to go along with this is a mod with realistic skins, tricorders, and Type I Mark I phasers. Judging by how long it's taking you to make this level, I think it's safe to say that my dream (a realistic Galaxy-class starship) would be out of the question. Even a Miranda-class would be complex, as you'd have to create all-new textures *AND* round off the panels/walls. *stops his inane rambling* Anyway, great job on this. I hope to see more screenshots soon.

Most impressive....

are you planning to be 100% true to the ship's floor plan (e.g. creating every single room on the ship) or are there going to be areas that you are going to skip?

------------------
Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.
2004-03-29, 10:00 AM #36
Pagewizard: I'm only doing certain areas. For a list of those:

Deck 1: Main Bridge

Deck 3: Torpedo Bay* and Observation Lounge*

Deck 5: Senior Officer's Quarters, Officer's Mess

Deck 7: Sickbay, Transporter Room, briefing room, ship's chapel

Deck 19: Main Engineering, Dilithium Control Room, Shuttlebay.

Plus there will be other random areas to fill space, but this is the list of important areas.

Seeing that constructing the entire ship's interior would be huge, there's no way, or reason, to do the entire ship. The original ship had over 20 decks. Most of the ship was never even seen in the orignal series, so the asteriked items on the list above are areas that I'm creating myself. The actual interior of the ship will be featured in every level, for custcenese, briefing, transport, etc. Probably one or two missions will actually take place on the ship itself, but the rest will take place on planets below or ships nearby. Since the Enterprise was such a character itself in the original series, the interior of the Yorktown will play an equal role in my level series.

Yeah, sounds like I have a lot of work to do, but I never said this project wouldn't take a while. Once the format of the Yorktown's interior is down and I make weapons and have all the character models done, I'll start on making the actual levels.

I've seen you do this once (twice??) before, and you always seem to lose it all.
Make backups. Send them to people. I'll take one, I've got a hard drive that has 80 gigs on it, I'll just let it sit there for a while in case anything happens.

Give parts of it to people you know and trust, just.. don't.. lose it all.. again.

I don't end up losing them, I just stop working on them. I've only lost one project over the 4 years I've been editing.

I make regular backups of this project, and the past 3. I usually stop working on one project due to interest in another. This one, however, has had the most work done to it yet.
