Been a while since I've done some modeling for Jedi Outcast. Here are the first versions of both Sango and Kikyo from my InuYasha model series.

Feedback is appreciate. Want to make sure They are as accurate as possible to thier anime counterparts. If you need reference, go to this fan site:

Disclaimer: If you are not an InuYasha fan and are very vocal about expressing your distaste for it, get lost. Don't waste my time telling why you hate it. Just give me feedback on the model and leave it at that, ok?

I think it would look better if the models were cell-shaded.

Looks Great,

Maybe the head/faces look a bit off, but I doubt an anime face could be done much better then that in a fps.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I released Sesshomaru a while ago at pcgamemods.com. Go here to download it.

As for future models, I plan on creating Miroku, Naraku, Kohaku, and Kagome (debating whether I should do her though). Once I do those, I re-release all the skins as a skin pack and once I get JA, I'll convert and release them for that game as well.

The textures look crappy compared to the model itself.
2004-04-02, 10:29 PM #7
Uhh... could you be a little more specific? If you are refering to the flat colored-ish look, I intended that to make it look anime-ish. However, I'll admit that I did throw the textures together without too much care so maybe I should try redoing them from scratch to see if I get better results. Not only that, I'm not world's greatest texture artist ever so I have my limits.

where can i find these other skins?.... oh and very nice models, although the textures are a bit lacking. I would have to agree to go for the cell shading.

Kikyo looks odd with those pants. It just doesn't look right one her. The skins and coloring look a bit off...

Savage, i downloaded your Inuyasha skin, and i have a problem. The model doesnt attack straight, like the lunge in blue style is off to the side, and the red swings dont hit right. Also the sheath collides with the sleve. If theres anyway i can fix it please tell me, or could you please fix it? Much appreciated.

EDIT- the sleeve problem i mentioned above applies to the Inuyasha model too, but its very good other than these flaws, the one above kinda stops me from using it during a fight, cause it doesnt strike right (i found this problem in one other model too, but its not yours).

EDIT 2- I think i know the source of the problem with the model. When i stand still in strong style, the saber is tilted diagonally to the right ( i think the center of balance or whatever is not straight).

Uhm, the sleeves aren't supposed to connect, well, on the top side of the arm anyways. On Kikyo however, it should be closer to the top of her arm. On Inuyasha, it's more midway, and should show the white shirt underneath.

Sango's head is a bit long, on a second look. Perhaps the pants of Kikyo could be expanded further. And the faces just don't look right one either of them.

I remember assisting with the other models, and I look foreward to helping out with these, as well.

I'm not even sure who the first girl is, but she looks too much like Kikyo, for my tastes. Perhaps you should use a different face.

Kikyo, on the other hand, is spot on as far as the face and head goes. The rest of the textures on BOTH models are poor quality, especially for your abilities (You may not think yourself good, but I certainly know that from the abilities shown with the other 2 models, these are lacking) so I believe those could be tended to a bit more.

I also think you should do the creepy little bug dude that follows Seshi around. Plus, I think you should (I'd be perfectly willing to help, or do it if someone else would impliment it) make each of their swords, as well as add some pretty effects to them. I don't know how difficult it is, but perhaps some of the attacks could be incorporated into a mod, of sorts? I do believe a Fudal Japan town and perhaps the inside of Inuyasha's dad's tomb would be some pretty badass levels. A few tweaks, and you could have people jumping off walls in the tomb, slashing at eachother in insane speeds. I don't know, just an idea.

Well, those screenshots I have to admit are a little dark (despite the contrast tweak I did to them in PSP) so the textures look worse than they really are. Maybe some shots from Modview would be best. However, I will take into account that the textures are low quality in the first place so I'll go spice them up and show the results later.

As for the swing problems, yeah I've noticed that ALL my models that I have created (even Sango and Kikyo) have that swing problem. I have no idea why - I think it could be because 3dsmax imported the skeleton from Kyle's root.XSI wrong. The legs bones were in the wrong places (they were pointing forward) when I first imported them. As much as it pains me to rebone everything, I think I should consider fixing the bones to see if it corrects the swinging errors.

As for the shirts on Kikyo and InuYasha, that is just the nature of Kimonos that they wear. It has that slit in the sleeve near the shoulder. Kikyo's torso is based on InuYasha's torso but tweaked to make her chest look "woman-ish". Her pants are supposed to be really large and baggy but I didn't want to make them TOO baggy or they would collide with another in an odd fasion.

As for the faces, I'll admit I'm not too good at making Anime faces look accurate in 3D. It isn't easy making something that looks great in 2d and without shading look good in 3d where you need detail and shading.

As for cell shading, I rather not do that if the method required involves doubling the polycount. They already are about 3,000 polygons. I think the prefered limit for JO models is no more than 3,000. Doubling it to 6,000 would be a real no-no and lower the polycount is out of the question (the models right now look block as is... something I should consider fixing). If cell shading can be done another way, say with shaders, then I'm all ears for that.

Anyway, I'll take all the suggestions given so far into account when I go back to tweak them. I recently just completed a model for Kagome so I'll post a shot of her next time I post. She has much better texturing this time around than the other girls so hopeful I'm making progress in that area of design.

Update - I FINALLY fixed the error with the lightsaber swing not being correct. Apparently I skinned the r_hand tag used to bolt weapons unto to the wrong bone. Because of that, I released version 1.2 of Sesshomaru and version 1.4 InuYasha at pcgamemods.com. I also applied this fix to Sango, Kikyo, and Kagome as well.

I agree. Cel-shading would only make it look better if the game had cel-shaded lighting. And unless you want to make a mod to do that, it probably wouldn't turn out all that great.

Well, actually, Kikyo is supposed to have a long skirt. There should be a way to do this, since as I remember, Mon Mothma had something similar.

No.. she wears pants like in the model, it just that they're a bit wider in the show I think, and the fact she doesn't stand with here legs that wide apart..
2004-04-05, 3:31 AM #21
Yes, Kikyo doesn't wear a skirt. She wears pants just like InuYasha except they flail out at the bottom. When her legs are close together, it looks like a dress but it isn't a dress.

As for progress so far, I'm still preparing to get the models to look right before I'll post updated shots of them.

Don't Cel-Shade. Anime really, dispite everyone's beliefs, look good 3D and Cel-Shaded. Your method of translation, to me, is far more accurate.

Now, you must be lying, because you did the other character's faces amazingly well. And I do believe that Kikio's face looks spot on, but the other girl looks too much like Kikyo's face, unless she's another past-being of Kikyo or something? (I'm still trying to find an episode with that girl in it).

I agree with Jedikirby: the faces are exactly the same between the models, when Sango and Kikyo clearly have different faces in the series (the defining feature is the eyes).

It wouldn't take much. juse either make Kikyo's eyes narrower or make Sango's eyes wider and it'd look much better.

Yeah, to tell you the truth, I made Sango's face first and just recolored the skin to make it Kikyo's. I have recently changed that, making Sango's eyes a little bigger and with more eye shadow. I'm still tweaking the textures more and more so I'm not ready yet to show them off yet, as well with Kagome's model.

Kirby, Sango doesn't appear in the series until around episode 23. I believe you stopped watching around episode 14, right? If so, I obviously didn't watch enough to see her pop in. Sango is quite an interesting character and has a big role between episodes 23 to about 32. If you go to that fan site I posted above, look at the pictures from those episodes to see some pictures of Sango.

I love the last kikyo, spot on.

The upper shirts of the first two shots are odd, the dark spots and highlights look too defined, perhaps finding a bit lighter color for the dark spots, and a bit darker color for the light spots would help. More transition, as well.

Else, 10x better.
