This is a robot model that I built today using wings 3d. Build time was about 3 hours, during which i developed a fairly good handle of the program's capabilities. In terms of fast learning-curve usability, Wings kicks Maya's a**. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I'm not done with it yet, I may keep the wheel or give it legs. I plan to texture it as soon as I figure out how. Still, I consider it to be a good first serious attempt at modeling.

comments and questions welcome.

Awesome! In that second pic the view of the head almost makes it look like a pit droid. I assume those are guns for his hands in the first pic. Very nive model overall though! Is it for any particular game or just for 3D artwork?

at this point, it's just for artwork. But you never know....

I didn't originally intend for it to look like a pit droid, but it kind of turned out that way. And yes, I do plan to add guns on the hands.

Think of it as a pit droid with bad intentions. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Yeah, it's cool. But the recoil of the planned weapons would better not be too strong.

here's the robot textured. (in bryce 5) I gave it a shiny metallic finish, and added a gun. The recoil problem is solved by adding a kickstand. (sold separately ) [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I added the glowing red eye in photoshop.

In my opinion it looks a little too "Boolean". A tad too obviously flattened or stretched spheres/cylinders/cubes glued together for my taste. Needs more edges. Not bad for a first try though.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

It's all excellent imo, except for the wheel. It just looks kinda of outa place. The texture's not quite right (I know you said it was just a slap on) and the wheel doesn't seem terribly round. Looks kind of like a Stone Age wheel if you know what I mean, lol. But I love the main body and the gun. Very nice indeed! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I plan to replace the wheel with legs or something else.

In the meantime, here's the robot in a desert environment, with desert camoflauge plating. Perfect for desert reconissance and ambush missions against enemy convoys.

You can hide from them, but not for long.
They will even cross oceans to kill you...

One cold robot, now with feet!

It shuts down and waits near a heavily-travelled convoy path until the close proximity of a pre-programmed assassination target awakes it again...

This model is a beefier version of the previous robot, and boasts heavier armor.
