Yep, I don't know if anyone had done this before, but I though I'd give it a shot. The cog was provided by Descent_pilot in a post from long, long ago, locked away deep in the Massassi editing forum. The url is here if you want to check out the thread and see the code.

Here's a pic of the escalator in action. All the textures are courtesy of MaDaVentor (may he rest in peace [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] ).

Not entirely practical yet, but it might be interesting to see where people might take it.

Wow. You know, I can't recall any games that actually went to the trouble of coding and designing a working escalator. Sweet work.

I've done it before, but lost it almost as soon as I did it in a comp crash that led me to scrap the project. It's all in getting the right cog and setup. BTW, that looks sweet. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

yeah, but in any q3 based system it's... EASY... FUNC SMART TRAIN for one... as well as a billion other methods.

You know, JK is completely different from any Q3-based game. You can't just tag a sector with a func_*. You really should try making a JK map to see what it's like.

Thanks guys, but I just wanted to point out I'm not planning on releasing a level with escalators in it. I was just sharing in case anyone else was interested in doing a mall level or something of the sort.

Unless the level is quite small the idea is, as I've already stated, not quite entirely practical. This feature is not to be used in excess, primarily due to the high thing count and also framerate (maybe, I haven't tested that). Also, the steps don't generate instantly, it takes about five or so sevonds for the chain to get going, so this wouldn't look to good if it was the first thing you saw upon startup. However, I'm hoping someone will be able to improve upon this idea.

If anyone thinks I should write a Tutorial, please say. My Email is not working at the moment btw, so if anyone wants to ask or send me something I'm afraid I can't be of service. Hopefully I'll get it up and running again fairly soon, with any luck before May.

Thankyou again for the comments and praise, but someone be sure to ask Descent_pilot about the actual cogging, since I know nothing of that aspect of the escalators. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
