I've started another starship model for JO/JA. I haven't seen anyone make one of these yet so here it is. Let's see if anyone can figure out what it is.

I still haven't figured out how to do the cockpit due to conflicting source images.

What is the V-38?

The model is being created in 3ds Max4.

It's a round tie with the ends of 3 interceptor wings around the perimeter.

This is a V-38 (yes, i know its a toy. There aren't many good-quality renders left of it, but i'll post something better if i can find it).

The fighter itself appeared in "Rebel Assault II". Unfortunately as the game's so old, its difficult to find either a good picture or a computer that can play it (save this one for me, eh? i've wanted to try modeling this ship for a while)

Ah yes, I do remember the V-38 now from Rebel Assault II. I think it was more commonly called the "Phantom Tie" and that is how I associate with the V-38.

Yes I do have AIM, with the screen name "zymotico", but I hardly ever use it.

Hm... If the wings were a little bent, I'd say they were for the ships in StarCraft. You know, those you see in the startup menu as you put in your CD. The Wraiths! That's what they were called!

Yeah it is the V-19 Torrent Fighter.

I'm actually stumped on what to do with the cockpit. Perhaps some critiques and suggestions can get the creative juices flowing. This is what I have right now:

At the moment the cockpit is kind of a cartoon/concept-drawing hybrid.

I'd have to agree with Cazor on the cockpit and suggest you make it more like the ones in the concept art (link). The cartoon is nice, but the concept is nicer. And a tinted transparent window is a must.

Made more adjustments to the cockpit, and I've sliced up a canopy lid. Almost ready to start texturing.

Almost done. I probably should start looking for someone who knows how to make flyable vehicles for JA. I would do it myself, but I don't have JA. A static model for JO is definitely planned from me.

After texturing, bones and animation are next. (I should probably build some landing strut geometry too).

Still need to create the shader for the canopy lid, texture the landing gear stubs, and correct the size (it is a little to small right now). Any final suggestions before I release the static model?

That's pretty sweet. I don't know how to but if you (or anyone for that matter) could make a mod so that you could fly that thing... That would be AWESOME. Just plain AWESOME... OK, maybe not plain, maybe AWESOME with bacon.
