Had to whip this up for a job application, took about 4 hours...i could probably do more to it, but im out of time, comments welcome.

the first one is more artistic imo. Try and add some texture to the second one to make it seem like it has undergone wear and tear like an old photo.

The only thing I prefer in the original is the background. Your's seems a tad too bright and flat. Otherwise you've done a good job.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

He is trying to restore it not make it look old. :P Good job. But You should of atleast kept the grey background. Maybe just taken the dots out of it.

I agree, you need to do something more with the "wall" behind him. Right now it looks alot like you just used the polygonal lasso do cut him out. I know you did more, but that was my first impression. I don't think it'd need much. Perhaps a smallish gradient and a bit of noise to make it look plastery. Other than that, damn good job.
