Im working on a whole town similar to the tatooine map long ago but it will be more closly linked to present day arab towns. So far ive im working on the palace it self. Ive almost completed the hallway and midway on the front outside.

I would like suggestions on detail because i know my work never has enough of that, and when i observe other maps made by people the detail is exquisite but i never know what my maps are missing.

also you can try out my first map ever made i hosted it on my site (to_eaoc.pk3) has lots of secerets you might have to use no clip to find out, one of them is a jettpack and concussion rifle hiddin in a rock.

and if any of you would like to donate shops and other desert type buildings to my town it would be wonderful you will recieve full credit as well.

Sorry about that my site isnt empty but it was weird that you couldnt view it but here are the screens.
So i mainly want detail advice on what i can do to spruce up my hallway to look more professional.

The bland look of those columns and curves aren't visually pleasing. The architecture of the map also isn't terribly good.

It looks ok, but I think the problem is in the scale of the detail (which is shared by many maps). Contrast larger features with smaller, much more intricate detail (think low grid sizes) and it will look more convincing. Also, don't hesitate to use func_groups with key: lightmapscale value: <1 for more precise shadows.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Try using some older rock textures for the column and the roof (maybe some cracks and chips in columns as well). Give this map a older feel and make the roof a little lower (by the way the fire lamp hanging from the roof is pretty cool). I look forward to seeing another update later.

ill try the new texture thing, the textures do look kinda corny i got this cheap gold texture off google for it ill have to look for another. I dont think ill lower the roof any at all, i plan to have it atleast 3 stories high but with smaller windows on the upper stories. Its supost to be the palace of my arabian town which its looking more like a temple to me.

Another note before I forget is try not to use TOO many fire effects in the map, it will make the map very laggy if you do (as in the map "Restless Endeavor" by Blood Asp).

I hosted a game for a friend and me (2people) just to show him how far i got (which is as far as those screens) he had 900ish ping for the majoirty of the time, could it be that i already have too much fire effects or just the internet was a bit screwy that night?

also the big fire lamp haning only has fire textures around the rim dint put anyinside for one you cant see the insides when down below and 2 i thought of the lag problem to
