While taking a break from my single player project, I thought it might be fun to make a multiplayer level. So I cranked up the Metallica and ZZ Top and got cracking. This is what I have so far....

It is complete, I just want some people to BETA test it for me and tell me what they think. I added new music to it as well. ( dont worry its star wars music [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] ) This is my first mp level I have ever made and I used all new textures. I am currently wokring on two other mp levels which are about 90% complete, so they will be showcased as well soon. I named it Sullen Malignance because it stands for silent hatred, which i felt kind of suited it. Tell me if you are interested in BETA testing it and give me your email address so I can send it to you. Oh and one more thing, my firewall prevents me from playing online (except over lan) so I cant host a server. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I suggest trying to figure out the lighting problem, that would add to this level alot.

Well...after a grueling two hours, I fixed the lighting problems. The only problem is I can't post screenies now because I need the password to the image thingy and the person that knows it is sleeping. The BETA thing still stands though....

I like it. Perhaps a bit more variability in the texturing, it still looks a bit plain. But the architecture is nice!

yeah the archi is good,
maby make those textures have a hint of color, like tan on those back walls and maby blue of green-ish on that darker greay texture.

I think a dark space sky would look far better with that texture/archi scheme than a bright blue sky. Plus, than you could darken the level a good deal and give the archi a much more impressive look not to mention hide the texture faults.

Bland and overly repetitive textures. Little effect in terms of lighting. Work on lighting. A lot. Put in some real shadows. Architecture is somewhat boring, pointless at times. Lacking grace or functionality.

Uhm, wrong Sith. I say good things, when something deserves them. The texturing job is a step or two up from just texturing everything with 00_base mats. The architecture isn't graceful, or even functional. The effect of it, simply looks blocky and boring. And as for the lighting, there's little difference between the original images and the lighted ones. It could certainly be put to much better effect.

I would have to agree. It just looks like a lot of boring blocky archi thrown together just because it's a bit difficult to do in JED. Just because it takes a long time to make, doesn't mean it's going to be fun, or good looking.

And the textures just don't work.

I'm with SniperWolf on the lighting. It started out with no lighting, and then you just added some lights so it looks slightly darker. It really needs some serious shadow to it. It would be kind of cool if the center area was all pretty bright and then the outer ledges had deep shadows. Right now the lighting is just boring. Don't get me wrong though, the architecture is great, and the textures are pretty good, but just fix those lights.

It's simple: Stone doesn't go with metal grating. The contrast of white and dark doesn't work, either.

Also, those big things sticking into the room are only crowding things up. Maybe you should cut a slab into them and put a power up in them... at least make them worth something. Maybe even hallways leading into them?

Oh boy. Why do I now forsee a JED v. JKEdit war...anyway

I think the architecture is good. Not overly detailed or elaborate but it goes. Textures though...yeah they have to go. It looks like it was cel shaded by my 5 year old cousin. That and you need lighting...a lot. Fix those two things and you have a good map.

I havent seen one examply of so called "fanboyism" on this thread. People say it looks awesome because they really think it does. He obviously put a lot of effort into it and it shows. Maybe the textures dont match perfectly, but this is by far one of the best things I've seen in JK in a long time.

Despite what some here have said, I haven't seen any "bashing". There's been criticism, however, there is a large difference between criticism and bashing. Bashing is simply insulting a work. Criticism is given so that an author may improve his work. This level is ok. Moderate.

All I can say is then you haven't been looking. There are two relatively recent levels I can think of, both of which put this to shame. One being Proelium and BombshellRapture's Yorktown. Does that mean I'm saying this level is bad? No. What it means is it could be improved. One reason for criticism. With a decent bit more work put into this, a good texturing and lighting work, this could be given a very good atmosphere and look. As for textures, something darker and more metallic would probably fit this level better. Despite what was said, I suggest avoiding the default textures. Once in a rare while they can be made to work. One example would be Blood_Asp's level for JKArena which I think only had the JKA textures other than JK's. Though part of why it worked was excellent lighting. This level is lacking in both texturing and lighting. And in my opinion architecture. The architecture just creates a blocky feeling. Particularly the ceiling/upper half.
