A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

That last shot blows me away. My only suggestion is to do something more with those stairs, I bet you already have though.

Is this still the same Nar level? If so, how big is this sucker by now? Like, city blocks or miles?
And of course the big question; are you ever going to release this?

Looks great of course, though that first couple shots remind me more of Coruscant than Nar.

Great, except... In the third shot it looks like one part of the skybox is day and the rest is night. Though I may be mistaken.

It's a neighboring planet, as seen in the second shot.

Excellent, Sine!
2004-05-05, 11:34 AM #18
It isn't anything spectacular in compairison with the old nar, or the skills of Sine. Although, it is quite superior, I do think it needs a bit of attention to details, the attention that you, sine, never seem to let me down on.

So far, it's great, but I know it can be better. Much better.

There's your answer Kirby. This isn't Sine's Nar. ...Btw, some things I'm noticing on second look through these are, try to make that grate texture have some thickness, at least where you can see the edge anyways. The floor texture is very repetitive in the first couple shots. Try to break it up. Create some alternate versions of the same texture, and mix them in at spots around the floor. The buildings in the skybox have some odd edges. And they could be changed a bit. They don't really seem like Nar's style of buildings. More similar to Coruscant. Last thing is just that grid texture. I don't know, it just seems a bit sharp and contrasting. Maybe try modifying the alpha channel some to blend the edges slightly.
Edit:
Hmm, some other things I just noticed... That one area looks like some sort of spaceship terminal... if it is, add some kiosks or something, fill in that unused space. Add some trash cans etc. And landing pads on the outside. And add some more detail to those benches, if only in the texturing. I like the ads though. Add a few more. Maybe a couple with Aurabesh writing.

6.jpg is amazing... Not just the realistic feel, but the architectural accomplishment of having those support beams and struts continue around the curature of the wall... it looks very nice.

and it also looks a little 'slapped together', but not so in the sense that you spent little time on it, but in the sense that supplies were low and parts weren't cheap so they used grating and stuff to fill in the floors. very, very nice.

I really dont' care for the little tramm station or whatever it is up top though... the doors to the side are good, but.. the top is just too open. The signs look nice, but they're just randomly hanging up there... it doesn't have that dense feel like your lower city stuff did. Maybe if the signs were positioned off the walls, just above the doors?

Regardless, it's fantastic.

actually, after looking at those shots again, I see the transport docked outside... which leaves me to believe it's a civilian spaceport type deal... And in that case, the airiness of it fits quite well (the view of the stars and all).

If anyone ever tested Sine's earlier builds, please check your hard drives for left over ZIPs and PK3s of it. Apparently he's lost quite a few textures. Not sure if Zully still has them.

Anyways, looking good. i love that center support texture inbewteen the grate windows in the 1st pic.

Oh, and sniperwolf, the buildings look very much like nar: http://www.starwars.com/databank/location/narshaddaa/img/eu_bg.jpg
Just not the nar you've seen. Most people dont take into consideration that planets are HUGE and they all dont follow the same exact design. I mean look at the earth. Compare a U.S. skyscraper to the taj mahal.

I've seen that pic before Cazor. And these buildings don't really match it. In general they just seem to lack the style, the feel of Nar Shaddaa.

From what Sine tells me, the buildings are a mix between the various Dark Empire styles, the DF/JK games, and some of his own ideas. I recall him being torn quite a bit over building design.

It looks pretty darn good, Sine. I just have one gripe with part of it (from the screens you've posted, anyway.) The area from the last screenshot(6.jpg), the wall texture seems a bit repetitious. The texture is okay, but there's an area of it that could to be changed a bit,
[http://www.geocities.com/spud1337/sgst1.txt]
like for another texture, so you have a basic wall texture,
[http://www.geocities.com/spud1337/sgst2.txt]
and then another texture (the original) that has the small added bit on it so that there's a bit of variation in there. You know, just a small suggestion.

It seems a little too clean to be Nar Shaddaa. Maybe this is the nicer part of the moon.
