I wanted to post this in a contest, but without that sky. Since I uploaded it I can show it here... I can't post it there anyway [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
But you could give me tips for the next one.
Don't know, hmm, the sky doesn't look really good, any other criticism?

The lake and the beach look great, but the problem is, there's WAY too much contrast with the mountains.. it's as if it were mid-afternoon over the lake and midnight on the other side. Same could be said about your clouds.. they're too thick considering how many clear areas there are.. usually when you have clouds this thick, you can barely see any blue.

Yes, it's a very beautiful picture, but unfortunately Flexor is right. Nevertheless, it's a fine work.

What is that rendered in? Surely it isn't vanilla Terragen . . .

Impossible! That's Terragen? That can't be Terragen by itself. It just can't be. You must be using like a bazillion plugins or something.

SOPack Water Opacity and WaterWorks Sorta Surf, and maybe some filters afterwards.. Can't be much, I think.

Terragen 0.9 can render transparent water and this shore stuff. I rendered it in 1280x960 and resized it, that gives you more detail. The only post-work I did was to work on the contrast, but I overdid that a bit, and I sharpened it a bit (that improves the realism)

Thx for the comments [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I actually like both pictures. The only thing I don't think looks accurate is the beach. It just doesn't have that eroded smooth look.

I don't know what kind of mountains you're on but any lake I've ever seen doesn't have tropical blue-green sea water. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I totally agree with Friend14, but how would you fix it? Unless you wanted to painstakingly edit the heightmap by hand, I don't think you can fix it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Hehe, Yecti, true, but someone once said, we shouldn't try to imitate nature, because everyone sees the mistakes than, but to make something more beautifull than nature (but that's still a long wy to go!)

It turned out a bit to greenish, but I think the problem is the beach, that looks too much like sand. If it'd be more grey I think it would work better, I will try it.

Actually, glacier-fed lakes generally have a green colour that looks like that. http://www.lake-louise.com/images/chateau.jpg

If it weren't for the strange waves on the lake, that would look exactly like a picture.
