emon told me that, and i have heard it from other people in the past. [edit]alright, well i guess he was wrong, but he still said that some video cards dont like them, and im not sure he's gonna be wrong on every thing he told me... so its still not a very good idea.[/edit]

Maybe if one of the coders on TMU could spare the time (maybe), you could add an option to switch between the 1024x1024 textures and 2048x2048 textures. This way, people with video cards capible of running higher texture settings will stop complaining and low-res users (probably like me [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]) will be able to use the low-res settings.

This way, everybody's happy! (now if you can just add the blue glow/lightning textures on the Neb...)

The neb looks pretty good it needs to be bigger though. it makes the logos look like a capital ship. From the animatrix dvd one of the directers said the neb is the brother ship to the osiris. So use the size of how the setinals fit on the ship to determine the scale.

I must say that Chateau has drastically improved. Looking very nice.
2004-05-20, 5:16 PM #51
I love how the Chateau doesn't have any weapons on the walls. ^.^

Good work, so far. The Neb and the Sentinel really need a lot of work in the modeling department... they just don't look, or feel right. I know the Neb could be 10x more detailed, but as it says "WIP" I won't be harsh. But the Sentinel is really lacking the details that made it feel... organic AND robotic. Not enough robot. Just looks like a sphere with legs. Mmm, sphereswithlegs.

A) ive already said that we cant have any more detail. it just wont work for how man of these are going to be on the screen at once. 10x the detail is just absurd, at least for the Q3 engine, or if we even want to appeal to anyone, because those kinda models just wouldnt work even on high end PCs, not to mention, once again, the number of models on the screen at one time.

B) if you've seen the movies, you would know that the sentinel basically IS a sphere with tentacles. there's not much thats detailed abou it other than the eyes, the legs underneath, and a few lips in the sides of the head, which the model has. the tentacles also take a lot of the polys away, because in order for them to have a somewhat smoothe curve when animated, they needed to be split up into 5 segments, and having them all muplitplied by 5 is a lot.

C) yeah... no weapons on the walls because it's a WIP and no one's modeled them yet. hopefully i can find someone, though. modelers arent as hard to find as coders... oh man i wish it was like that, though.

The detailing on the neb is wrong. Go in the games section of the official matrix website. There is a game where you have to put together a 3d model of the neb. it takes sometime but it's an excellant referance. The sentinel looks good. But I have 2 concerns The robots tenticals look like cylinders. Make them look roundish. 2 concern is the sentinals might of not been humans, but they still had personalitys.
If you observe the movemnts on their faces you can tell they have that innocent look but at the same time their meneces. And you can tell they have differant reactions. For example in the animatrix when they spotted the osiris floating up in the sky watching them, you noticed they came flying in packs like a swarm of hornets. Basicly saying "were coming for you" A few more examples When the hammer hit the debris all the sentinals stormed at it. Basicly saying "WE DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS WE GOT TO KEEP DIGGING DESTROY THEM NOW!" So They all react you got the model right but it looks too stiff, and tight.

...uhm....

A) cylinders are circles with hieght... so making them rounded... yeah that doesnt make sense.

B) the sentinels dont have moving parts on their faces. the eye lenses shutter from time to time.. but nothing really that can give them a personality. machines are built to look just like other machines.

C) oracrest did use the 3d model game on the site. i assure you he got it as close as he could with the bugdet we had on polygons.

D)yeah... it looks stiff because its not animated yet. hence the part where i said, "no animations yet."

Wait now. I said they support at least up to 1024^2, I don't know if higher works.

it does, but as you also said(i looked it up, too), some video cards dont support it, so its a bad idea.

I said some video cards won't support 2048^2, everyone who plays JA has got to be able to support 1024^2, they are used in JA extensively. The engine probably also lowers texture resolution based on what the card can support, so you're fine with 1024^2. I don't know if 2048^2 works, but I said you should try anyway.

And this morning, a dog ran up to me and barked, as if he were saying that there was an old lady with her door unlocked 2 blocks away and he thought it'd be nice if I'd go in and take all of her money.

Then when I got there, the old lady screamed and threw pots and pans at me while I emptied out her jewelry box, as if to say "OMG, THANK YOU!"

By the way, That Morpheous makes me hot. Really hot. Like, hot.
