First off I'd like to thanks Massassi for their nifty keen editor's corner. Jedinights is misbehaving/dead/I-forgot-how-to-log-in, so the EC is a life saver!

Yes now. The ship from Futurama. I'm sharing this in hopes that whatever feedback I get will help motivate me to finish. I have the concentration of a small sea creature, and I'm distracted by shiny objects. Here's hoping for the best. Hey, a nickel!

The architecture took about 2 or 3 days to complete, so all that's left is stitching and texturing. I'm going to try for somethign accurate to the show, so it should turn out in the style of my SpaceCadilac. Sorta cartoonish, y'know?

I'm going to utilize my highly experimental stitch-fu technique for smooth stitchy goodness. It's kinda like a poor man's Milkshape 3d, but incredibly anal. I'll share the lurid details if anyone's interested.

Oh, feel free to point out any innacuracies you can spot. I used a bunch of episode screen grabs for reference, not all of which were consistant with each other, so the model's a comprimise. If anyone thinks I can make some improvements, I'd love to hear how [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

There must be something in the water. A Massassininnianite plot to corrupt our precious fluids! To the bunker!

Okeedokee. I've slapped on some temporary textures, and once I prep the model to display correctly in game, I can start making the ship look like something. I should have some in-game pics with updated textures ready tomorrow [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Now that's the kind of nitpicking I want to hear! I think you may be right, so I stretched out the ship by about 15%. I left the turret alone since it should be circular. Does it looks better now?

I've also started working on them textures. I started off with a simple color test to pin down the right hues. I haven't added any shading or details yet, only my best guess at the ship's color scheme. I think I'm pretty close, but if anyone thinks I'm off, just drop a line.

[shameless plugging]

A while back I made a Correllian Corvette 3do. Well, now it's coming to a computer near you in X-Wing Alliance and Homeworld form!
And XWA editor named Berruga went through the painstaking process of converting the model for these games. It will be featured in the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project for X-Wing Alliance and in theStarWars: New Rebellion mod for Homeworld.
I seem to recall working really hard on that ship, so I'm happy to see people enjoy it in more games. Even if they are trying to blow her up [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Here's a screenshot I took of the corvette in X-Wing Alliance. I think it's purdy:

And here's an image posted at the StarWars: New Rebellion forums. I wonder how difficult it would be to convert that Star Destroyer to a 3do...

Anyway, I just wanted to show those to you all. Be sure to check those mods out for all sorts of great 3d work [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

[/shameless plugging]

And now for something completely different.

Something more like this?

I added some shading/highlights to the engine bell and laser turret, and I'm still tweaking the shader for the main hull. I like how the top half turned out, but the ventral surface is turning out kind of funny.
I should have the bottom hull worked out sometime tomorrow, along with the shading for the ship's fins, and I'll probably start on some details like the cockpit windows, hatches, etc.

one or two small things. It seems a BIT to long and thin, the bottom needs to be thicker. Th back fins should be thicker too. Other then that NICE!

Ah, thanks for the pic. I've adjusted the model's proportions a bit more. I shortened the ship's foward hull by about 20%, and I've flattened the bottom hull, making it less "barrel" shaped and more "bathtub" shaped. Observe:

http://www.massassi.net/ec/images/14400.jpg

http://www.massassi.net/ec/images/14401.jpg

Alls I did was adjust the ship's vertices in Joke. This will probably warp some of the textures on the finished model. I'll know for sure when I start adding detail to the textures. If that's the case, I'm going to have to restitch and reprep the ship to get it looking nice in game.

I'm still working on making the fins thicker.

Here's another in-game pic with the updated 3do. I still don't like the shading. The light parts are to light and the dark parts are too dark. Boo!

http://www.massassi.net/ec/images/14403.jpg

And here's a Razorback Starfighter, modeled and textured by Decoy from the XWAUP. I have attained permission to and I'm working on getting it converted to a JK 3do. Sharing Rocks!

I should be able to do some significant work on the PES textures this weekend. More pics to come!

Wow. Those oldoldold WoT showcase posts must have really made an impression on you :)

I've been out of the loop, so I haven't checked out The Life of Grismath (downloading now), yet. Maybe it'll give me an idea on how to implement some of WoT's adventure game interface :)

Right now I'm not sure what kind of help I might need, since I've been contemplating how I want to proceed with The Wrath of TiTo:

My original intent for the project was to use Jedi Knight's 1st/3rd person camera. I started building my level detail accordingly--lotso overall detail, big areas to run around in, making sure to keep the framerate up/avoiding HOM, etc.

Then I switched to a 3rd person static camera, that used a new POV when you crossed a certain adjoin, or stepped on a 3do, or whatever. I was able to retrofit my level with the new camera system, but now it had alot of unneccesary, boring areas (hallways with no real points of interest, for example), and MiniSpace is suddenly really tiny in most camera views, and there's alot of extra ground to cover between the "hotspots."

Before I took a break from editing a year ago, I started to rebuild the level at a much smaller scale, with the intent to add much more detail to each scene. I even toyed with the idea of making each "screen" discontiguous, totally abandoning the FPS element of a single coherant map. MiniSpace would just warp to a new scene after leaving the last one. I could build what I need, and make it look nice, and not have to worry about everything fitting together perfectly, and the player wont have to run down unnecesary cooridors to reach the next puzzle. I consider this a more cinematic approach to the project.

Skip ahead one year. Now I'm thinking of incorporaring a blend of 3d models/architecture with 2d backdrops. I could take a pencil sketch, ink/color it and apply it to a background surface. I'd then match some transparent walls/floors so MiniSpace moves through the scene as if it were true 3d. I'd add whatever supplementary 3d architecture I need, add some 3dos for flavor, et voila! Armegeddon!

My next step on the project will be to construct a proof of concept level for this system, so I can figure out how difficult it would be to implement. If I can get it working how I want it, it might cut down my workload considerably, and will definatly give me way more creative freedom. Plus I'll get to draw pretty pictures :)

Hmm, for those of you still with me, thanks for sitting through that. :) Maybe it won't work very well at all, I dunno. Even if it does, this cog neophyte will still need to build this hypothetical Jedi Knight verb/inventory/conversation system I've been thinking about. But that's a whole 'nother ball of wax...

And if all else fails, maybe I'll just use that share/free?ware Adventure Gaming System for some Sierra-Style-Smackdown!

Now where was I? Yes, the Planet Express Ship.

A nearly completed Express Ship next to Decoy's Razorback model, converted to a 3do by your's truely and working perfectly in game! yay!

The Starfighter will be available for download as soon as I can straighten out my Jedinights dilemma, and the P.E. Ship will join it shortly. I just need to add more detail to the textures and I think I'm just about done with it.

Rear detail. I probably should have modeled those engines...

Ventral Detail. From fore to stern: torp launchers, boarding ramp, cargo doors, and landing gear. I should probably build a landed version of the ship...

A nice profiles shot. I need to add more detail. I should probably cut down on that noise layer on the fins...

Here's a vector Planet Express logo I made for my textures that I wanted to show off. Vector=teh math!

I'm not really far enough along the level where finishing it would be a great deal less work than rebuilding it. The textures take way more time to make anyway, and I can just reuse the ones I've already made.

Will your conversation system work in JK? If so, I'd be very interested indeed!
