In the other Bryce 5 thread, the subject was raised as to how I construct my renders. It's all done in Bryce, and it's overly simple to do. How good it looks is really based upon how much you deviated from the tutorial and what after effects you did. As I started writing up my tutorial, I realized I was basically rewriting one I already had from DeviantArt, so I just upload that one instead. THIS IS NOT MY WORK. I better not get any flames from people now who point and say it's not mine.

Tutorial

The only things I do differently from that tutorial, is occasionally I change the numbers for the multi-replicate, I fashion my own materials, and I shove lights in the center of the mass or in other places to achieve different effects. I'll also zoom the camera and move it around. It's basically taking that and playing around and altering things.

It was also asked that I upload a copy of Tears. That can be found here. I should note that I don't often release my backgrounds out to others. Dunno why, some I just like to keep to myself. Tears was one of them, and as such, it was designed to work with my Windows setup. I keep the Start Menu at the top and Quicklaunch at the bottom, so there are white spaces for both. Since we're on the subject of desktops, I'm also going to give you the link to my 6 copies of Reaction. Three colors, two versions of each color, one with text, one without, six versions. I normally have an index.html in there to prevent leeching, but I'm pulling it until this thread dies out, then it goes back. My contact info is in my profile if you want a copy after that time. Reaction: Red, Green, and Blue.

In another few days I think I'll throw my new project in here too. I'm running out of ideas for it and need some suggestions. It's mostly something I'm just playing with.

Comments and questions are welcome, if you find anything to comment or question... Hope this stuff helps.

What do you do the post-work with? Photoshop or something similar?

Yeah. Photoshop almost always. Once or twice I've done a little vector work in Freehand and imported it in, but not on any of those.

Your abstracts could greatly benefit from more post-render brushing and stuff. But as far as abstract BGs go, these are pretty good.

Reaction is about 50% Photoshop work. The original render was very, very bland. But yeah, most of them could, the problem I face is figuring out what to do to them so it looks good, but not overly cluttered, and that what ever I add mostly appears to fit in.

I love tears. How did you get those little post-production patterning on there (with the lines and various patterns) I know you didn't use bryce for that, but what program did you use to make those?

The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc., IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.

Yeah, Photoshop and about 10 minutes playing around with a pixel design on a channel.
