And this one happens to be none other than Kyle's Guardian Angel. Yun makes a return appearance, in what could someday turn out to be a single player level. I've got the concept and plenty of ideas, I'm just wondering if anyone think's it is worth pursuing. I was just doing something while I waited for someone to figure out what the heck happened to my current level, Somnolence (visit the cog forum if you think you might have an idea).

In the meantime, I'm thinking of a concept somewhat similar to Ghost, if you've seen the movie. Yun can't really interact with people, so he has to manipulate the environment to accomplish his objectives. Like I said, he's Kyle's guardian angel. He feels indebted to Katarn for bringing him to the lightside, and wants to repay Katarn by guarding him ultra close. Katarn's just been assigned to an ultra dangerous mission, so naturally, Yun tags along. He can do all sorts of things like walk through doors and stuff, but his weapons have no effect on people. However, he can do things like kick rocks to alert Katarn to a patrol of stormies or even create a distraction by deploying TIE Fighters' docking clamps. All in all, this means to be a much more strategic and unique Jedi Knight level.

The current level's just a trial ground. Sorry there are no real screenies yet, I just want to know if I should pursue this idea. So whadya think?

I think it would make a better Jedi Academy SP level... dare I say. Only because JK doesn't handle translucent 3do's very well... you'd run into too many snags and headaches

Ghost mode! Yeah, so it doesn't really work, will probably just give everyone a headache, so I'll probably have to scratch it. It is kinda cool though.

Yes, Halucid, I agree it might work better in JA, but I don't have JA and I'm all for new and revolutionary things to keep JK alive - plus I'm not really that fond of the latest installments mainly due to the Quake engine.

Certainly, JK doesn't handle translucent 3do's too well, but I'll work on it for at least a little longer. I've already made some discoveries that I'm unaware have been made before (such as being to walk through other 3dos), so I'll see where this takes me.

Actually, it's just the JK 3do's. You have to open them up, give them the 'blocks light' flag, and resave them.

Kirby, You set an un-adjoined surface's face flags to 2 or transparent.

It's a really good idea, go with it for awhile. There could always be a way around the 3do problems.

But might I ask, what do I open the 3do up with to correct LEC's mistake? Joke perhaps? Where's the option to set all the surface flags to "blocks light"? Forgive, the n00bish statement, I just can't remember what to use or where to find it.

1. JED.
2. Select all surfaces of the 3DO.
3. Hit enter.
4. Go to Surface Flags.
5. Blocks light, check it.
6. Reload Templates to be safe.
7. Save.
8. ????
9. Rejoice.

OK, I tried a GBK, didn't work.

Is that skewing effect stable? Could it be done for a force speed effect?

Actually, it's the +ADJOIN FLAGS field. Add 80000000 to whatever value is already there (generally 7 by default, so the new value would be 80000007).

Uhh, this is what I'm not following. How do I edit a 3do in JED when it's already a 3do? Can I convert it back to sectors (and thus surfaces)? If not, how do go about "Selecting all surfaces of the 3DO"? I'm sorry, that's totally unclear to me.

And Kirby, I don't know exactly what you mean by stable, but the effect gives you a heck of a headache plus it's a major eyesore. If it just affected 3dos it'd be ok, but it affects the surfaces obviously as well.

Open up jed. Press file-import then get your 3do. Hold alt and drag a box over the the 3do in surface mode. Then change the flags mentioned above. Press sector mode all the meshes will allready be selected the flie-export a 3do. Then if its a player model remember to change the r_hand and that other value.

Yeah, use conman to extract it and then in JED under 'File', use 'Import 3do'

I thought that was apparent with my post... but ok.

Could the effect be used on one 3DO, like the player? Perhaps if a glowsaber technique was used to put an enlarged player 3do around the entire player model, make it transparent, and make it have that skewed effect? It'd be GREAT for Force Speed.

Wow, I can't bleieve I didn't know that. That would have saved me so much troubles months ago if I had known that. I never read it on ay of the forums or tutorials. I guess it was pretty obvious. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Thanks all the same though, however it's not working at the moment. I did as you said and now the player's feet have gone through the floor, but he can still walk so the floor is flagged correctly (he just has stumps, that's all hehe). And the blocks light flag isn't working - the player is still flickering, especially in dark places, despite me setting extra light on all his surfaces to 1. Do you want me to post a pic, or do you know what the problem is?

I believe the root of all JK biped models is the hips. If you happened to have the chest selected (it will be red) when you exported, it became the new root. Make sure the hips are red, and the rest is just orange.

If that doesn't work, ask someone who's actually opened JED sometime after 2001.

The solution for the feet through floor thing is here. After yuouve exported the 3do in jed, open it in notepad. At the top there will be a line something like:

Insert Offset 0.0000 0.0000 0.0000

change it to

INSERT OFFSET -0.000050 0.000000 0.120114

That fixes the floor problem. Now theres also a hand problem which you may not have noticed yet. But scroll down the the bottom of the page and look for this line.

12: 0x0 0x4 13 11 -1 -1 0 0.001632 0.003386 -0.028002 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 -0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 K_RHAND

And change the last three values of that line to:

-0.002488 0.009120 -0.005542.

Actually, i've gotten that effect on a 3do. I made a TV and only the screen was like that. I think it's a pretty cool effect. I might be able to give you some more info on it later. The TV i made is in a level im makeing at the moment. After i release the level i'll let massassi in on how to do it if they like it.
