Been awhile since I touched 3ds max, I did a good chunk of tutorials back in January but wasn't able to play with it during school. It's a WIP, attempt at a Yoda head (no ears yet, obviously), I've gotta tweak it a bit to make it look right. There's actually an eye thickness that got messed up in that photo, (it's fixed now). Any commentary is appreciated, nitpick away if that's what you love (WIP!^).

UPDATE! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I just quickly mirrored it and moved the ears into place. The ears were harder to model than I thought! Oh well! :P I worked quite a few hours on this now, and I'm happy that it's starting to look like Yoda ahhaa. Constructive crits are appreciated! I want to improve wherever I can!

pretty good, but I think the head is a little too bulgy. Is there a reference pic?

You're getting mirror issues. That's the reason for the bulkyness. Faces are NOT perfectly mirrored, else our noses would be shaped just a bit differently.

Select everything and scale x axis by .9 (or add a 5 if it looks too different). That should help most of the unusual bulkiness. There's still a bit of bulge in the cheeks like I mentioned the other day, though.

Scaling the x axis was my next move [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] I understand the 'mirror' effect you're talking about, this is just for showcase purposes. After sleeping on it I also realize there's proportion issues, this model deviates from that of my Yoda PEZ dispenser [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Here's a neat exercise a teacher showed me in college. Take a picture of yourself on webcam, perfect front view (mugshot). Cut the face in half in photoshop, and mirror each side respectively. Most people have an evil half and a better half, it's pretty entertaining, give it a try [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

No, it's not the reason. It's bulky because he made it bulky. I don't know where you've been, but ever seen 3D models replaced sprites in video games, they've been mirrored. A lot. And I can think of a few hundred that don't look bulky.

I've ran into the X mirror problem alot when modeling player models.. I always overestimated the width because I was only modeling half of the model at a time.
