1. Darker
[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/Echoness101/shot0066.jpg]

2. Lighter
[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/Echoness101/shot0075.jpg]

Same place but differences with lighting. This isn't really a MP level so seeing the player isn't a problem. And, you don't have a flashlight. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

[hmm. Screenshots of level doesn't show much difference of lighting there. Bah. Maybe I should turn it up more of a notch. :/ ]

Darker. Virtually no loss in visibility, but better contrast.

Its a tough call, but lighter. That way, you get to see more of the details that you've done (i might have to get back to mapping for JA after seeing this)

I personally like the darker one better, but that depends on what the theme's supposed to be.

Darker. The lights on the floor look a lot better in the darker one.

That's a tough one, but I'd go for darker as well.

Something else: The way those blue lights are placed, I don't think they could illuminate those rosts, that looks a bit weird. You might want to adjust that and have the rosts only be lighted by the dim environment light. See below:

I think lighter looks better. You get to see the archetecture and texturing, which is way better than black. Try turning the brightness down on your monitors and looking at the pictures again. In my experience, many people have their brightness jacked way up so darker images look better than washed out bright images, when the brighter pic isn't actually washed out.

It works really well both ways.

I really like your work Echoman, it's gotten totally spectacular. You have the kind of work that is (relatively) simplistic, but very rich, and like...I dunno, just stylish and awesome. Keep it up, it's really nice.

Actually, go with the light, you DO see a lot more detail that way. But either works. Maybe try upping contrast on the lights to give it atmosphere of the darker one with more visibility like the light one.

Lighter is obviously the correct choice.

Porting it to DooM 3 to take advantage of even better lighting is even more obviously the correct choice.

Why not? 20 bucks for D1-3

I like darker, but they both look fine. It's a matter of opinion, really.

Light.
2004-08-30, 5:40 PM #25
i say, keep the darker lighting, and in some areas, have the slightly lighter lights in there, too, but set them to fliker, so it flickers to normal (lighter) to dim (darker).

I've always been a fan of darker stuff for the atmosphere. There isn't too much detail lost in the darker version.

Thanks for the response guys. Its seems to be a mix bag for lighter/darker. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Anyway, I feel that maybe a combination of both dark/light atmosphere would work. Dark corners and area with some areas of light (some operating portions with electricity). I might show some more places of the map, if I'm not lazy.
