I'm workin' on a little bit of a MechWarrior mod and I need some help with things like skinning and getting the models into game. I would love to be able to add weapon functions also. This is my Madcat model so far:

I'm also throwing this model out here to maybe get some reactions . . . see what people think.

Your Mech is to rounded. You have to much detail in some areas and to little detail in others. Mechs are usually pretty blocky, thats what makes them rawk.

Ok well I don't really know what you're talking about. I followed a couple pics as best I couldd while keeping it from being extremely high poly. But uh . . . the areas that don't have enough detail? If I didn't model the detail then it will be there with the skin.

Anyways, I actually need people to help me skin or least skinMAP this thing for me so I can work on it myself.

Haha, I remember my first ambtion, to port Mechwarrior to JK as a mod. Needless to say, I did nothing and never even got a single person helping. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] I gave up starting mods then.
DO NOT WANT.

What did you model that in? It looks like some version of 3DSM.

The feet -- particularly the toes -- seem a bit too small to support the mech realistically.

Is there any way you could render it with a faceted texture, or turn off smoothing somehow?
2004-09-02, 1:03 PM #11
Probably and about the feet. The rendering does something weird. Probably the smooth but it like cuts alot of them off.

Ok actually I made the feet a little bit bigger but uh I can't get the rendering to do a good job. Either way, I just wanna try to get this thing in game . . . I can fix it from there.

Well a bit of critique--

The smoothing looks like crap, at least for this kind of thing. Smoothing on a mech is not good. The only things that should be smooth and rounded are the body, legs, and maybe the arms (if they're using PPCs or lasers).

looking good!

Now do a shadowcat and I'll be happy.

That vent on the back should be modeled, no need for it to be flat like that.

The feet are a tad bit wrong, according to MW4 standards.

Also, the arms are just a smidget longer.

The cockpit is a little more flat on the bottom, and has a larger nub than that.

Good start though. I like it alteast.

Anyway, it looks too high-poly. Then again, C4D's default shading is pretty lousy. :\ Another thing I'm not so sure about is the nose of the cockpit. It looks odd, detached, and flat. The real mech seems to have a rounder, more unified nose.

Anyway, nice to see another C4D user around here. :)
