Very nice. I like it, it's actually GOOD photoshop, not just a bunch of filters and no work.

Yeah, I have no idea how you can do things like that in Photoshop... You surely have some serious skills.

I'm going to take a whack at how he did it:

#1. You have a graphic tablet. If you don't, then I have no freakin clue how you did that :D
#2. Using pressure settings under brush settings, you allowed for color differentials, and opacity changes.
#3. You also used a certain style in the brush to produce the "stroking" brush feel to it.

That's an oversimplified attempt at explaining it, but that's my guess.

Anyway, that's drop-dead gorgeous.

No, No tablet.

It took ruffly 12 hours overall.

II would start making more if my computer was down here with me. However, sadly it costs alot of money to ship a moniter. I'm just waiting on my parents for that one.

In that case, I have no frakkin clue how you did it. Mind explaining? :D

As a matter of fact, Yes I do:-D

I pretty much figured it out on my own. Hit up google and search for "The Art Of Greig martin", he has some tuts on his website that would help you out. But we won't tell you how he made everything. If I told you how I made it. It would take all the fun out of the image. Once everyone knows how something is made and how to make it themselfs, it looses much value!

You suck. I've been trying for MONTHS now to achieve and effect like that. I still can't get past it looking like nice stars, lame clouds, and really bad brushing.

Yeah exactly. Seeing a million and one of the same thing on DA and such really ruins it. I'm glad to see you did something with the techniques that's useful and not just another "swirly nebula with planet" background. Very Swank

Oh, he's the magician that won't reveal his secrets.... That's the stupidest thing I've heard for a long time. You can't "ruin" a picture because you know how to do it. Good god that's sickening.

My point is once everyone knows how to do it. It becomes "Trendy". That's the last thing I want to happen, Space scape is done by few. Because it's so damn hard!

If everyone made awesome levels. Then awesome levels wouldn't be awesome anymore. See my point?

I worded it wrong, I am very sorry for this...
Some things you just have to learn to do on your own.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you on that one. Space scapes are currently a "Trend" and there are a ton of them everywhere to prove it.

While they are time consuming, that doesn't neccessarily make them difficult.

What I posted earlier still applies. I'm glad someones using this technique in a more-than-a-bg kind of way. I hope you expand your technique and come up with some truely original pieces of art. You show promise and a good understanding of PS.

Uh, no. You can teach everyone how to do something, doesn't mean everyone's going to do it as well. Note how you said it took 12 hours? That isn't instentanious. It isn't like teaching people is suddenly going to null your art. You're simply being overly protective, and boastful about your own artwork: Get over yourself.

I ment that in no way. You read into it way too much.

It's hard. So don't expect to learn anything over night. I've worked in PS for 4 years now. It's not something you master over night.

If you want to comment or help me out with what is wrong with the picure, I wouldn't mind. But in no way does this help anyone. Fighting and telling people how stuck up they are only starts fights. If you want to tell me what is wrong with it, do it.

But don't go ranting and raving about people whom you just met.

Once again, you have read into this way to much, I am sorry if I offened you in anyway. It's just some art. Let's leave it at that.

I've been working with Photoshop for 7 years. I can agree with not being able to master it overnight. Photoshop is no easy program. I still don't know half of the ins and outs.

However, I disagree with your not wanting to tell people how you made the image. Oh, I respect your decision. You have every right to not tell us. I just disagree with you.

Mastering Photoshop (hell, even becomming proficient with it because I'm no master by far even after 7 years) doesn't just take learned skills. It also takes a talent. Just this year, I found out I was somewhat talented in making those abstract type images you see on DA. The hell if it's a trend, I'm good at it. I can make things that look very cool. Someone like yourself may suck at doing that, but you make awesome space scapes. Now, for all I know, I could have that talent as well, but every other tutorial I've read has lead me in the wrong direction, or hasn't explained something do me in a way I'll understand. It isn't just about pressing buttons and selecting filters. It's about the brushing, the color selection, the brightness, the contrast. Your view on the matter could finally shine the light on what I'm not getting. Once I become proficient at that, I'm one step further in my knowledge of Photoshop and how it works and just what I'm capable of.

I think what I'm trying to say is that while becomming proficient with the program (I hate the word master) isn't instantaneous by far, every bit of assistance you get in exploring it helps. I have 10 different tutorials from different authors explaining how to make wires in Photoshop. I collected them back when I was experimenting with making interface type things. Each provided a different view on how to make them. Same objective, different methods. Together, I got a very good idea of how to make a wire that looks good, and often quite real.

You have every right to deny us the privlage of how you did that. And by no means am I trying to convince you of telling us. I'm just stating how I feel about it, and why I think you're wrong in your decision.

Either way, that is still a damned fine piece of work and something I wish I knew how to do better.

What the hell is your goddamn problem?? You just ripped a guy to pieces because he wouldnt tell you how he drew a picture! Grow the **** up and stop being such a rude prick.
2004-09-13, 5:54 AM #24
I did not deny you every right, in fact I told you where you could find some tuts to help you out. and since you didn't bother, here are the links

Star Field

Planet

From these tuts, you should be able to figure everything out, It takes some time so don't except you to just up and learn it.

Also, Brushing is pretty much the key to these, for the space dust you have to brush and erase, when you erase make sure you have a texture set for the brush. Set the Op. to 29% and you should be good. Pretty much dork around from there. Till you get something nice.

Oh yeah, after reading that star tutorial, I can really see how you did it. Meh, I always forget about the friggen gaussian blur. (Probably because in my comics, I use 0-1 filters per comic :D)

And Kirb: You are way off base there little buddy. Simmer down.

I simply think it's absolutelly useless to know how to do something, then plead "Originality" when someone asks you how. He simply could have given a brief and quick rundown of the basic aspects, simply for interested people, or heck, he could have said that he isn't good at explaining it. But it's simply egotistical to plead that "I can't give out my secrets."

You may disagree, but I think someone with such talent shouldn't be so quick to keep it to himself. I'm not trying to sound like an ***, or am I really all that upset about it. I just think it's a silly thing to pretend like you're a magician.
