She was *supposed* to look in a somewhat amazed disgust. And I tried to make her look Asian-ish. Which worked better than the expression IMHO.

Thanks, now you mention it she does look a little bit native American.

The main problem with scanning pencil drawings is that the carbon reflects light (it's shiny) and thus your scanner totally screws up the light en darkness of some parts and then the contrast. The global contrast can be fixed quite effectively but the other flaw can not.

Actually, native-american and asian bone structure is incredibly similar. Researchers trying to determine Vietnam War MIAs from bones can't tell if a skeleton belongs to a Vietnamese person or a Native-American.

That's because native american got in America when the Bering street (sp?) was still crossable. The herds went from syberia to Alaska and the (mostly mongolian I think)-people followed them. That is if I payed attention at history classes.

Actually I think you got the facial expression down well. I can imagine her saying, "Are you kidding?" in a slightly-disgusted, almost-can't-believe-you-said-that kind of way.

Two suggestions I have for future drawings: The line of the nose seems a little bold. The shading on the rest of the face is excellent, but the dark line of the edge of the nose looks a little unrealistic. Maybe you could use a little more shading on the nose edge next time. Also, the head looks like it might be slightly big compared to the body, but that's not that noticable.

Overall, very very nice work. You might try taking a picture with a digicam where you have more control over the lighting and exposure. Keep it up.

Blujay: you're right about the nose. I still have the tendencies to use thick lines. Also clearly visible at the arms. And my proportions often turn out bad, but you're the second one to notice, so I guess it's not that bad on this one. And I don't think it's impossible big here, just would've looked better if the head was a little bit smaller.

Ruth: Asians are lucky, nothing beats black hair and dark eyes.
