Yep, I made this years ago, never could texture it.

I just booted it up in JED a minute ago and tried to get some shots of it (obviously blown slightly out of proportion). I wish David McHale could have used something like this in his "Terror on Sigma 51" series.

Yeah, so in case you haven't guessed, it's the M-41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens and it's about 450 polys. Made completely in JED - my first effort. If someone could texture it for me, I'd be very happy! :)

(Sorry for the crappy shading, that's the JK Engine for you.)

Not bad for a first. By your posting of the second reference, I think you know what needs to be done so I wont bore you with details (im sure everybody else will for me anyway). Also the shading looks to be more of a result of unjoined polys. No doubt if this is your first model, it is a mess as far as construction goes. My reccomendation would be get some kind of program more for modeling rather than level creation. From what i've seen in the past JED doesnt really cut it. Keep at it :)

Thanks! :)

Yeah, I was considering posting a pic like this:

But speaking of modelling programs other than JED, could you perhaps point me to a few free ones that you'd recommend. Preferably no trial period expiration date, but I'll take what I can get. Thanks.

I agree that's not bad for a first -- much better than most of my firsts. :)

btw, with a bit of practice, you can do all sorts of stuff in Jed -- just look at a_person and me; we do our work in Jed and (most of) it looks great, save the issues the critics point out. Thus, at least for some, Jed DOES TOO cut it. ;)

btw, you might try Joke for modelling, though I never got too good at it :o
Otherwise, another program that is said to be good is Milkshape 3d, though to me, it's like trying to learn how to use Joke, since they're kinda similar in layout and stuff.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

That looks a lot better than any of my JED attempts.

I just started using Wings 3D, and am loving it so far. It's all free, and works really well.
